Theta Nu-Appalachian State $5,000 Annual Pledge Made to Local North Carolina Community through Medical Philanthropy Theta Nu-Appalachian State recently announced a partnership with its local hospital, the Watauga Medical Center, and its Higher Elevation Campaign. This initiative has raised more than $10 million for the new wing at the Watauga Medical Center that has been under construction since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire project consists of the heart and vascular center, improved women’s health care, an orthopedic and wellness program and the Schaffer Family Patient tower. These services align, of course, with Alpha Phi’s philanthropic ideals in the research and advancement of women’s cardiovascular health. Theta Nu’s annual pledge will ensure their local community receives the medical care and treatment they deserve. “We are pledging $5,000 annually to help those living in the High Country of North Carolina,” said Lily Fady, Theta Nu’s vice president of marketing. “We are so excited for this opportunity to better lives and our community. We are not only helping the Higher Elevation Campaign but one of our sisters – Paige Helms – works as a CNA at the hospital. [This] is a huge advancement on the local level for heart health and philanthropy.”

Alpha Phi Takes on Disney with Annual Leadership Institute The annual Alpha Phi Leadership Institute partners with Disney to offer a 3-day leadership development experience tailored to offer our members an immersive, experiential curriculum, plus the tools and skills to lead with purpose, create an environment of trust, understand the impact of their actions and more. Collegiate members 18+ years in good standing are eligible to apply. The Disney Institute inspires Alpha Phi’s leaders to excel in their roles and provides them with the skills to lead effectively and with purpose. This program is made possible by the generosity of the Alpha Phi Foundation donors. Through this collaboration with the Disney Institute, Alpha Phi is eager to help members identify personal and organizational values that drive them to be a better leader. Participants were encouraged to share compelling visions for the future of their chapters and campuses that align their values and visions with what drives action today. Attendees walked away from this experience with an understanding of what it means to be an effective leader by utilizing values to infuse a culture within teams through a foundation of support. This year’s Leadership Institute was held at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, from Thursday, September 21, to Sunday, September 24, 2023. Approximately 175 collegians attended this event. For more information on Alpha Phi’s programs or to learn more about the Leadership Institute, please contact programs@alphaphi.org.
