Do the math to nd out some extraordinary facts about the woolly mammoth.

Mammoths were the largest land mammals that ever existed. They lived throughout the Northern Hemisphere for about 85,000 + 15,000 = ____________ years.

The word “mammoth” is used to describe something incredibly large—and that is what these animals were. They weighed around 9 - 3 = _______ tons.

From the size of its molars, scientists determined that the frozen mammoth was (5 x 9) + 2= _____ years old when it died.

Dick Mol, one of the scientists studying the mammoth discovered that science can be smelly. While helping thaw the frozen mammoth, he noticed that it smelled like the elephant exhibit at the zoo!

The scientists thawed the mammoth very slowly and used a sieve to filter out all ancient insects and plant material that was stuck in the fur.
