A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

In tutor time this week students looked at the exciting topic of Pancake Day and took part in a quiz to decide their favourite topping. What was yours? Mine is a chocolate button wrapped pancake, yummy! They also celebrated World Book Day on Thursday and took part in a quiz to discover who has the best literature knowledge in year 7. Congratulations to the two U13 Cricket teams, Waldegrave Wolves and Waldegrave Warriors, who did so well in the Richmond Schools Sports Partnership cricket tournament on Monday afternoon - please see the sports fixtures section on page 3 for the full write up! Well done to the following students who are at the top of the student leaderboard, in joint 3rd: Lily K-J 7PCO, Marianne M 7PFO, 2nd: Nethra G 7EEL and still in 1st: Mia B 7PFO. The tutor group leaderboard looks like this, in 3rd: 7PCO, in 2nd: 7SDE and top of the table are 7PFO. Good luck to the Year 7 Netball team who take on Christ’s School next Tuesday. Next week Waldegrave will be hosting a book fair. Year 7 students will be able to use their world book day token towards the purchase of books for sale. Please see further details on pages 4,5 & 6.

Have a good week!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Girl of Ink & Stars’ by Kiran Millwood This book is a captivating story about a girl called Isabella, a cartographer’s daughter. She lives on an island called Joya. When her best friend Lupe disappears, Isabella is determined to join the search party by using her mapmaking skills and knowledge of the stars which help guide the search. The world beyond the walls is filled with monsters and ancient myths. Isabella must save not only Lupe but the island too. I enjoyed the character, Isabella, since she was resilient - she never gave up - and brave. I also liked how Isabella’s maps and knowledge transformed into something magical. The more you read the more secrets are revealed. If you liked ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold or ‘The Wolf Wilder’ by Katherine Rundell, since they also feature brave girls in magical settings, then you would enjoy this book.
