Boise is America’s Fastest-Growing City in 2018, according to Forbes — just one of many accolades the Idaho city has received the past few years.
“In terms of speed, yes we’re growing pretty fast. Is it sustainable? To some degree, but I’m starting to wonder.”

But how fast is too fast?
“In terms of speed, yes we’re growing pretty fast. Is it sustainable? To some degree, but I’m starting to wonder,” said Donald W. Holley, Emeritus faculty in the Department of Economics at Boise State University. “We tend to grow faster than the rest of the country and feel the recession more than the rest of the country. ”
The Boise-Nampa metro area — the core of what is known as Treasure Valley — is home to roughly 700,000 people, about 40 percent of the state’s population. And projections are that it — and the entire state of Idaho — will see an increase in population numbers
by three times the national rate through 2025.
The metro area’s unemployment rate was 2.9 percent as of May 2018, and job growth is on the upswing.
