Best Day Hikes with Dad

BY AUSTRIA COHN

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than embarking on an outdoor adventure with Dad? Colorado offers an abundance of stunning landscapes and hiking trails that provide the perfect backdrop for quality time together. Whether you want a relaxing stroll or a challenging hike to the top, here are three of our favorite day hikes to take Dad on. 1. Scenic Loop Trail at Maroon Bells, Near Aspen One of the most popular hikes in Maroon Bells is the three-mile Scenic Loop Trail, which makes for a short and easy day hike. This trail offers crystal-clear views of Maroon Lake, wildflower fields, and vibrant aspen groves. Note: You may need to pay for parking or shuttle reservations. Fee to park. 2. Hanging Lake, Glenwood Springs Hanging Lake is a renowned hike in Colorado because of its geological formations, awe-inspiring scenery, and clear turquoise-green water. It is a steep, rugged, rocky hike up to the falls with a 1,200 feet elevation gain. Note: Reservations will be available weekly, and hikers will see fewer people on the trail because the route requires a permit. 3. Horsetooth Rock Trail, Fort Collins Challenge yourself on this well-maintained trail with stairs and switchbacks. The 1,400-foot elevation gain leads to stunning 360-degree views. What makes this hike stand out from others is the scramble required to get to the top. Note: When scrambling, maintain three points of contact. Children may need assistance in order to summit the rock. Fee to enter. In addition to these iconic hikes, the All Trails app can help you find the perfect hike and difficulty level for your family. If you want to stay close to Denver, Red Rocks Park in Morrison or Deer Creek Canyon Park in Littleton are fantastic options with easy, moderate, and hard hikes. If you have time to head to Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods is a must-visit destination for hikers because of the towering red rock formations and scenic trails. No matter which hike you choose, spending Father’s Day exploring Colorado’s breathtaking landscapes is sure to create lasting memories for Dad and the entire family. So, lace up your hiking boots, pack a picnic lunch, and get ready for an unforgettable outdoor adventure with Dad.
