KELSEY LYNN SPROLES & PHILLIP LAYTON SHREWSBURY II PETERSTOWN | 2.29.20

summersville native kelsey and phillip, of peterstown, met almost a decade ago while attending Concord University. Their love didn’t blossom just then, but they reconnected years later at just the right time. The couple held a Leap Day wedding at their church in Peterstown. The wedding party included the couples’ nieces, Grayson Dowdy and Paisley Dillon, as ring bearers and Annsley and Piper Young as flower girls. Ushers included Nate Sproles and Dave Mathis. Kelsey, dressed in a Justin Alexander V-neck A-Line gown and burgundy fur coat, was escorted down the aisle by her father. Her “something borrowed” included her mother’s pearl earrings and drop necklace. Phillip waited in a Michael Kors black tuxedo with a wine-colored vest and tie. The couple was married by Phillip’s uncle, Pastor Jim. They exchanged traditional wedding vows and braided a knot to the reading of Ecclesiastes 4:12. A reception followed at the Four Fillies Lodge in Peterstown, where Kelsey and Phillip had their first dance to “Prayed For You” by Matt Stell. Then, the bride and groom surprised their parents with a dance to “Remember When” by Alan Jackson. Their red velvet wedding cake was frosted with white buttercream; its naked design allowed the deep red of the cake to show through, complementing the bride’s red Black Magic roses, eucalyptus, and assorted greenery. The groom, a golf aficionado, had his own chocolate cake decorated as a golf course. The couple’s wedding favors were throw blankets for the cold, February day. They honeymooned somewhere warmer—Grenada—before returning to Peterstown, where Kelsey is a pharmacist and Phillip is a funeral director.
