LINDSAY ANNE COBB & WILLIAM CHASE McKITRICK SHENANDOAH JUNCTION | 10.19.19

in 2006, lindsay and chase met at jefferson county high school in shenandoah junction, dated on and off as they attended West Virginia University, and even tried a long-distance relationship when Lindsay accepted a job out of state after college. The pair traveled to Scotland in the spring of 2018, and Chase decided that a leisurely walk along a coastal woodland path on Isle Islay presented the perfect moment to propose. The couple incorporated their families’ Scotch-Irish heritage, their shared love of Celtic culture, and their affinity for good whiskey in their wedding planning. The big day started in an unusual way: Scottishs games were announced in the mid-afternoon before the ceremony was set to begin. Chase was to play for Lindsay’s hand in marriage. The games were rigged in his favor, of course. Lindsay wore her wedding dress for the games, but hid the details from guests under a crushed green velvet cloak made by her grandmother just for the occasion. The white lace gown underneath was an off-the-shoulder design by Barbara Kavchok and was accented by her great-grandmother’s heirloom moonstone earrings. The groom wore a traditional kilt in the Douglas tartan. The couple exchanged vows following the games and joined guests for a reception in the barn. They couldn’t choose one wedding cake flavor, so they picked four: Tennessee whiskey and salted caramel, cardamom spiced cake with fig and honey, orange zest pound cake with cranberry wassail preserves, and molasses carrot cake. Bluegrass music filled the barn, and guests enjoyed the October evening, sending the couple off with a group performance of “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The couple traveled to Sedona, Arizona, for their honeymoon before returning home to Washington, D.C., where she works as a marketing manager for a nonprofit and he works as a project manager.
