SUMMER DAWN DeBASTIANI & CHRISTOPHER RAY HARTLEY MOOREFIELD | 8.8.20
chris and summer both grew up in kingwood and have known one another their entire lives. Their grandmothers were next door neighbors and lifelong best friends. Hurricane Florence brought Summer back to town as an evacuee from her home in Wilmington, North Carolina, when Chris and Summer reconnected. During a trip to New York City, Chris proposed at the top of the Empire State Building, and the couple began planning their big day. Because of COVID-19, they had to replan the event three times. The bride was finally escorted down the aisle by her father and wore a wedding dress from the Essence of Australia collection. An instrumental version of “November Rain” by Guns N’ Roses played as she carried a bouquet of white and blush-colored roses with a cross from each grandmother incorporated in the arrangement. The couple exchanged original vows, and the bride wrote the script for the ceremony. The third version of the couple’s wedding plans included a home-cooked meal made by the bride and groom’s families. Fresh seafood from the Florida Keys was flown in, a detail that was special to the bride, who loves seafood and lived in the Keys for four years. Prime rib, homemade rolls, and fresh salad greens from the groom’s family’s garden were served alongside from-scratch manicotti and stuffed shells. Guests enjoyed local beer from High Ground Brewery, owned and operated by the groom’s brother. A seven-piece band entertained guests during the reception, and the couple carved a three-tiered wedding cake. COVID-19 also interfered with the couple’s plan to spend their honeymoon on an African safari, and they hope to celebrate their one-year anniversary in that way instead. They currently reside in Morgantown; Summer is a director for WVU’s Office of Health Affairs and Chris is vice president of Hartley Insurance Agency in Kingwood.
