hayley and jj met 15 years ago at the clarksburg ymca pool. He was a star swimmer and Hayley, well, she was more the academic type. She secretly harbored a crush on JJ, and the two remained close friends throughout high school and college. Fast forward to summer 2017. JJ was advancing his career in finance. Hayley had completed a Fulbright year in Indonesia, finished medical school at West Virginia University, and was a dermatology resident at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. During a quick visit home, the pair met for brunch at the local farmers market for their first “real date.” Soon after, they realized their relationship, built on years of friendship, mutual respect, and now love, happens once in a lifetime. It was important to Hayley and JJ, now both living in New York City, to return to their Appalachian roots for their wedding celebration. The rustic lodge, guest cottages, and woodland chapel at Four Fillies Lodge in Peterstown was the ideal setting. For the ceremony, the bride wore a custom ivory-colored Anna Campbell silk crepe de chine gown with a cathedral-length veil embellished with delicate silver hand beading. The bridal party chose coordinating blush and cream gowns with intricate beadwork, lace details, and chiffon overlays, while the groomsmen wore matching cobalt slim-cut suits. Hayley and JJ were married under a chuppah handcrafted by the bride’s father and uncles of white birch logs from the family’s Adirondack camp. The flowers featured alabaster and honey roses, bleached Italian ruscus, and dahlias—a family favorite. Guests included friends and family from the U.S., Indonesian Fulbright Scholars, and physician and work colleagues from New York City. The evening ended with a universal West Virginia tradition, singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The couple honeymooned in Rome, Venice, and the Amalfi Coast.
