WITTLEE JO RETTON & MATTHEW CHRISTOPHER TENNANT MORGANTOWN | 9.28.19

in the summer of 2008, wittlee’s grandmother “moomaw” spied a cute boy running up the hill of her Fairview farm. She persuaded Wittlee to say hello and, 10 years later, that cute boy popped the question beneath a fireworks display in the rose garden at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The wedding took place at Morgantown’s Camp Muffly. The 4-H camp was transformed into a romantic Tuscan retreat: gold curtains lined the entrance of the Assembly Hall and pillows adorned the benches. Two marble podiums held vases filled with greenery and white floral designs. The ring bearer looked like a mini groomsman dressed in a navy Michael Kors suit, and the flower girl, wearing a dress with steel blue accents matching the bridesmaids’ gowns, carried roses the couple grew in their garden. The bride wore a rose water-colored sheer beaded bodice organza A-line gown and carried a bouquet made of her grandmothers’ pins. The women in the Retton family wore hummingbird tattoos in memory of Moomaw, the matchmaker. Wittlee was escorted down the aisle by her father to Pachelbel ’s “Canon in D.” The reception took place in the dining hall at Camp Muffly, where family-style tables were decorated with sprigs of rosemary in memory of Matthew’s grandmother, Rosemary Tennant. Guests dined on Tuscan-inspired platters of cheeses, meats, olives, and breads and an Italian buffet followed by a three-tiered cake decorated with steel blue icing and floral decor. After the celebration, the couple honeymooned along the Amalfi Coast and in Rome, Capri, and Sorrento, Italy, before returning home to Fairmont, where Wittlee works for the Department of Justice and Matthew works for the United States Postal Service.
