17. Scarce 1916 Standard Biscuit #87 Joe Jackson – PSA AUTHENTIC

Joe Jackson’s place in the mythos of the Black Sox scandal is forever secure. His place in the col- lecting mythos has also cemented itself firmly into place over the last several decades. This PSA authentic 1916 Standard Biscuit card of Shoeless Joe has scarcity and player popularity intersecting in an example that has obviously lost its corners. Yes, it’s creased, there’s writing on the reverse and its lived a tough life but Jackson does not have many cards from his playing days and even the roughest of diamonds can still be a jewel. MINIMUM BID: $1,000

18. 1909-11 T206 Sherry Magee “Magie” Error – PSA PR-FR 1

One of the most well known and popular variations in the T206 set, the error version of Sherry Magee’s portrait, with its iconic “Magie” misprint is one of the Big Six that make completing the set an Everest-like challenge. Long an object of study and theory, the error was corrected quite early in the Piedmont run. Its legendary status goes back to the early days of the hobby and continues unabated to this day. Blessed with speed, Magee was also a player with pre-war pop and retired with a career OPS+ of 137, snagging his one and only World Series ring in 1919 with Reds as they prevailed over the Black Sox. This PSA 1 is highlighted by its pea green background – which transitions to a descending, darker shade in an impressive display of the lithographers’ art – and a well rendered portrait featuring a rosy-cheeked image and stellar color. The centering is just a hair to the right and the corners all have some rounding. The registration of the blue ink layer is pulled slightly downward but does not affect the player portrait. A horizontal crease, not breaking the paper, is seen, with another running below it, slightly lighter in appearance, while a third is seen in the lower right corner. The reverse clearly shows signs of having bene removed from an album. Overall, the card looks stron- ger than the technical grade. The Magie error is not often offered and here is a golden opportunity to add one to your collection. MINIMUM BID: $3,000
