26. 1887 N172 Old Judge Cigarettes Ed Delahanty (HOF) - SGC PR 1

Big Ed Delahanty, one of the preeminent power hitters of the 19th Century, is pictured on one of his five N172 Old Judge cards. He earned his way into Cooperstown with his bat but infamy dogged him as he died a strange death at Niagara Falls after falling off a bridge. The pose on this SGC 1 graded card is identified as #123- 1, his “Bat at Ready” pose. This is a well developed example, with a small spot or two of residue seen at upper left. Pud Galvin, “in jacket, arms at side” looks almost dapper on this PSA 1.5 N172 Old Judge card. Also known as pose #177-2, the image is dark, with superb contrast. Galvin was one of the most prolific pitchers in baseball history, throwing more than 6,000 innings, with 646 complete games in his 15-year career. In 1883 and 1884, Galvin through 70 complete games each season , with more than 600 innings pitched in each. Galvin is considered one of the more difficult Hall of Famers in the monstrous N172 set, his cards always the

27. 1887 N172 Old Judge Cigarettes Hugh Duffy (HOF RC) - PSA EX 5 - Highest-Graded!

Winner of 342 games over a 14- year career, Hall of Fame pitcher Tim Keefe won 30 games or more in six consecutive seasons, falling just short of a seventh due to a two-week salary holdout in 1889. One of the more popular players of his era, Keefe is beginning to see respect in the hobby; an EX condition N172 Keefe attained a price of nearly $10,000 at public auction just a few weeks ago. This example is as sharp and clean, centered just a tad low on the canvas, the image contrast strong for the issue. The reverse is clean with minimal toning, an outstanding example of a key 19th Century Hall of Famer. 29. 1887 N172 Old Judge Cigarettes Tim Keefe (HOF) - PSA VG-EX 4 MINIMUM BID: $750

Extremely strong rookie card of Hall of Famer Hugh Duffy, catalogued as pose #135-3, picturing the shortstop with the Chicago White Stockings, where he spent his first two seasons. Duffy is theauthor of the highest single-season batting average in major league history, batting .438 in 1894. Duffy’s career batting average was .324, which is still good for #43 all-time. Graded EX 5 by PSA, the card is sharp and clean, with some fading to the image that is consistent with

the issue. The reverse isclean, centering slightly low on the canvas, any additional wear is mild. The highest graded example of this pose assessed by PSA, with just one example of any Duffy pose graded higher.
