As we progress into the 21st century, it is becoming more and more common to find women excelling in important roles in professional baseball. After a sting of career successes with several different teams, Kim Ng became the first female General Manager, taking the role with the Miami Marlins in 2021. Rachel Balkovec became the first woman to work as a full-time manager of a major league- affiliated team when she became the manager of the single-A Tampa Tarpons in 2022. Jen Pawol is an incredibly accomplished umpire in AAA, with a real chance at becoming the major leagues’ first female official. Baseball currently has 33 female coaches, with no fewer than BY AL CRISAFULLI SPECIAL COLLECTION
