To Whom it May Concern,
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to let you know of our programming of hope and empowerment through music and the performing arts. Our hearts are focused on helping to be a part of the solution in giving youth the tools to make healthy choices while finding their gifts and talents in the process. We have been running programming for over 20 years, and based on expanding our message and COVID-19, we are creating the atmosphere and heart of the program digitally in our 4-Journal Series: 1) Just Me, 2) Cherish Your Life, 3) These Feelings I’ve Got, and 4) Dreams. We have included some data from the in school and after school programming, and are working to develop our pre/post testing to collect our data for this expanded endeavor. Our goal is to make sure that our students are being serviced in a healthy and impactful way. I have included just a small overview of Thread of Hope Records and I’m Saving Myself along with other materials for your review and meeting on Thread of Hope Records is the parent company of the I’m Saving Myself, 501 (C)3 public charity. The program addresses Character Education through using performing arts, particularly music, to encourage students to make positive choices for themselves, despite past and present personal challenges. Since its inception in 1999, Thread of Hope Records has provided quality performing arts experiences for youth and young adults using a Youth Development Theory approach. This approach states that simply preventing negative behavior is not sufficient to develop youth to be productive citizens, but that youth also must be taught to strive for positive goals, and develop skills and motivation to succeed. The approach we are using for the 4-Journal Series is the Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Traumatized Children and Families. It explains how our program would work beautifully with this therapy. It shows how the therapist works with the child and family to create a book, poem or song to help discuss the trauma. Here is the link: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1056499315000176 Monday. Please let me know if you need any further information. Who is… Thread of Hope Records & I’m Saving Myself? Through the participation in Thread of Hope Records and I’m Saving Myself, students will learn how to enhance their self-worth with music and writing workshops. This program can be implemented either in the school system (during in school or after school programming), digitally through the 4-Journal Series, during personal empowerment or counseling sessions, or community events. The program is tailored to fit personal needs and schedule.
This program helps build: •
Social Skills: communication, cooperation, public speaking & responsibility • Emotional Skills: self-esteem, confidence and a sense of self-worth pride in oneself & boundary setting • Educational Skills: writing, reading, critical thinking, language arts & comprehension • Life Skills: reasoning, organizational skills, listening & healthful relationships
Thank you again Lael for your time and consideration. Please let me know if you need any further information.
Sincerely,
President, Thread of Hope Records Bonita Mitchell

SUMMER SCHOOL DISTRICT FIELD TRIP
Freedom Drug & Violence Free Program
“Mrs. Mitchell’s demonstrated professionalism, commitment, talent, and drive was unprecedented. Not only did she and her team provide an experience that helped transform skeptical middle school parents into early registrants, but she also personally inspired weary staff throughout the program. More importantly, I watched disconcerted incoming Freshman emerge into student leaders by the end of the program. On multiple occasions, she eagerly sought after and disarmed the most challenging students, utilizing her unique toolbox of calming conflict resolution and inclusion strategies. At the program’s end, I literally witnessed parents with tears in their eyes express their appreciation for Mrs. Mitchell’s results. Bonita Mitchell’s contributions attracted positive media coverage as well as school board recognition for our program. I could not imagine the level of success we experienced without our seamless partnership with I’m Saving Myself.
I’m Saving Myself (ISM) worked with the Benton Harbor Area Schools, “Freedom Drug & Violence Free” program for three years where over 50 kids pledged to abstain from drugs and violence. Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program ISM was a major player in the Berrien County Health Department’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TP3). We experienced a 99% attendance/retention rate, and helped lower the pregnancy rate in Benton Harbor High School by 18.5%. Music Camp The ISM program was awarded funds by the Citizen for Progressive Change Initiative to run a summer program at the Benton Harbor Housing Authority’s Virginia Edwards’ Center. We engaged the students for the summer in a Music Camp. BHHC gave ISM a grant to continue the program a second year. The number of students grew from 25 to well over 100 students. We did not have one fight in the 2 years we ran the program. In addition, the youth increased their leadership skills, and built confidence in their musical talents.

Stevie Wonder & Bonita Mitchell
THE Dream "I started singing Stevie Wonder songs at the age of 5, “All Is Fair In Love” was one of my favorites. Years passed and then I found myself sitting at the baby grand piano with this legendary, as he played and listened to me sing, sitting right next to him, “All Is Fair In Love.” I know dreams do come true! I spent 10 years traveling all over this world with Stevie Wonder becoming my boss!"
Our goal is to ignite HOPE, inspire our students to DREAM, and build CONFIDENCE in their gifts & talents

everaging her experience in the music industry, Thread of Hope Records (TOHR) was founded by CEO, Bonita Mitchell and has been working with young artists since 1999 in talent development and music production. But it was in 2001, after hearing about a young student who committed suicide at Bonita’s high school, that the purpose and vision for Thread of Hope Records would change forever. Bonita and her team were asked to bring the label’s newest music artist, Katie Gugiere, to the school to perform her hit song, “I’m Saving Myself” as a means to empower their youth and help them through the grieving process of their friend and very popular student. It was there that Bonita realized how the power of music and its message can transform young people’s lives dramatically. That year, Bonita founded the “I’m Saving Myself” Program, a 501C3 whose mission is to provide quality performing arts experiences to youth and young adults, using a Youth Development Theory approach. This approach states that simply preventing negative behavior is not sufficient to develop youth to be productive citizens. But that youth also must be taught to strive for positive goals, and develop skills and motivation to succeed. ISM uses performing arts, particularly music, to encourage students to make positive choices for themselves, despite past and present personal challenges. Through the various programs under the umbrella of Thread of Hope Records, is our culmination “Celebrate Life & Pursue Your Dreams” national music tour. The program’s mission is to bring a message of hope and encouragement to young people, allowing them to make healthy choices. The artists, under the Thread of Hope Records label, have performed all over the United States; for heads of state, other dignitaries, family and friends. “I have known Mrs. Mitchell for almost 10 years and we have built a relationship that is centered around the work we find most dear to our hearts, kids. Through her in-school program, she developed a book for our students, I Am Special, along with making a CD that featured their voices. Students were able to showcase thier talents and families were excited about how students were leaders and were confident to sing, speak, read and dance in front of large crowds. Mrs. Mitchell’s connection to the community and the performances she directed vicariously created an even stronger bond between parents and our school staff. The programs were highlighted on one of our local stations and were a key marketing piece to grow both our preschool and kindergarten enrollment.” P atricia R.

“We were introduced and began partnership with Mrs. Bonita Mitchell, President and visionary of ‘I’m Saving Myself’ in conjunction with Thread of Hope Records. Through this 2-year partnership, our students have been introduced and privileged to experience an up-close and personal ‘hands- on’ view of the arts that very few in our area are privileged to experience. This partnership has become an awesome lifetime, life-changing experience that has unveiled those once hidden talents in the arts that include vocal music, dance, and spoken word. Our students have become alive and hidden dreams are now hopeful. Mrs. Mitchell has played a very important role by helping implement necessary guidelines for student empowerment and helped engage the seemingly disengaged.” Y olanda B runt , M.A. Superintendent Covert, MI

NEW IN-PERSON AND DIGITAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMMING!
INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL JOURNALS! Just Me The Just Me Journal seeks to help a person understand and embrace the importance of self-love and inner emotions. How we see ourselves affects how we see the world, and how we respond to it. This journal will help you explore your unique qualities, what you like about yourself, and identify what you want to work on or change. All of us have something that we need to improve, but no matter where you are on your journey, you are worthy of love. As you go through this interactive journal, you are encouraged to create your own self-expression through music and the performing arts. Cherish Your Life The Cherish Your Life Journal communicates that each life is precious and a gift. You are here for a reason, and tough times do happen. Whatever is happening in your life, it is one circumstance and not your life. It may be in your life but it isn’t your life. This interactive journal empowers people to keep pushing through and not give up. It may be dark at night, but the sun still shines in the morning. This journal also includes information on how to write a song. We sing songs because we enjoy them and the feelings that are evoked while listening. Song writing is very personal, and artists sing out of their own personal struggles or joyous successes. Individuals will learn the basic components of a song such as verse, hook, and bridge; and are encouraged to create their own self-expression through music and the performing arts.

NEW IN-PERSON AND DIGITAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMMING!
INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL JOURNALS! These Feelings I’ve Got These Feelings I’ve Got Journal is designed to assist people in recognizing the feelings in their souls all the while teaching a person about tempo, rhythm, and beats. It’s important to not stuff negative feelings but allow them to be felt, and then released in a healthy way. Positive feelings are also equally of value, and you will have opportunities to identify what brings you joy (puts a smile on your face). In this interactive journal, you will also get to express yourself through music and the performing arts. Dreams Journal The Dreams Journal inspires hope, purpose, and helps people to achieve their aspirations. Many people have set their dreams aside to just keep food on the table or something unexpected happened, and they went on a detour. Others have not identified their dreams. This journal helps people rediscover lost dreams, and encourages them to start new ones. Dreams reveal the deep desires in our hearts, and taking action is the catalyst to achieving those dreams. Just start by taking one step. You may not have the road map on how to get there, but most people don’t know everything they need to do. They just take a breath, begin, and are determined to keep going. In this interactive journal, you will have the opportunity to express yourself through music and the performing arts.

IN-SCHOOL ELEMENTARY PROGRAM
I Am Special INTERACTIVE COLORING BOOK!
The “I Am Special” coloring book is a wonder for children to learn that each child has greatness inside of them that is just waiting to be released. In addition, kids are introduced to the alphabet, and learn words with each letter. This book comes with a catchy, fun (an easy downloadable song) entitled, I Am Special. Kids get to sing while coloring with their favorite colors. Through the characters (in this book) of Guitary, Bassen, Electra, Acousta and Tarry, kids are taught musical notes, to respect others, and to discover positive qualities within themselves. They are educated on several social skills: 1) to respect people, 2) listen to others, and 3) do their best. It is our hope that kids realize their own specialness, enhance their social skills, learn about music, and have fun!

"I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible journey I've had with Thread of Hope Records. What started as a volunteering opportunity to work in the after-school program where my children attend has completely transformed my life. Little did I know that this volunteering opportunity to spend time with my kids and help others would open up a world of opportunities for me. Thanks to your support and training, I earned my IEP Certificate and Paraprofessional qualifications. As a result, the school recognized my potential and offered me a full-time position as a Paraprofessional, which has completely changed my life"

Empowerment Program PREPARING FAMILIES FOR SUCCESS The Parent Empowerment initiative helps educators, community organizations and legal officials who are interested in making a connection with children by encouraging parental involvement. Many of the children in our service area may be suffering from one or more of the negative influences of growing up in poverty. Although the lack of parental support may be a barrier, with the right support system in place, our children can persevere. This new initiative will improve the participation and program functions. There are multiple opportunities for parents to get involved in the learning process. Orientation, Input Session, Resource Fair, Mini Performance, Training and Workforce Development Partnerships.

SUCCESS STORIES
Deavondre Jones Deavondre Jones witnessed his brother being shot, critically wounded and changed forever. He became his brother’s primary caretaker only to suffer loss again at his brother’s unexpected passing. “Deavondre came to us a very angry eighth-grader,” remarks Bonita Mitchell, founder of Thread of Hope Records, I’m Saving Myself (ISM) program. “But,” she continued, “He loved to dance. When we uncovered that, I knew we could turn this kid around. You see, we are not a music organization. We are a behavioral health organization. We help build self-esteem which can help prevent mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Music and the performing arts are just the vehicles we use to administer our healing. The music is what draws the kids.” Deavondre thrived. He went from being homeless to graduating from a junior college to attending Columbia College in Chicago on a President’s scholarship and representing the student body on Columbia’s board of Trustees. Most impressively, in 2013, he introduced the concept of DanceSpire which mixes performance art and motivational speaking to deliver inspirational messages. Through live performances and online videos, DanceSpire promotes the values of fearlessness, consistency and education. As it states on the homepage of the website, “DanceSpire challenges categorical thinking and believes that any idea, regardless of someone’s age is possible. We just happen to express it in a really cool way.”

Katie Giguere
Katie Giguere was a shy, bullied teenager when she first met Bonita Mitchell, and she decided to became a part of Thread of Hope Records, Celebrate Life & Pursue Your Dreams School Tour. She went on to have her recordings reach number five on the Christian record charts. She also became a published author of the book titled, Being the Fat Girl, which chronicles her story of overcoming low self-esteem and bullying. An TOHR participant heard Katie sing the song titled, I’m Saving Myself at one of the organization’s school program culmination concerts, and it inspired him to give up his very detailed plan to take his own life. Although the song was about sexual abstinence, he interpreted it as saving himself from his circumstances. He made a conscious decision to live! This youth inspired the name for it’s ISM organization expand the meaning of the organization’s name from meaning avoiding pre-marital sex to avoiding all destructive behaviors. The inspiration lives on.

March 5, 2021
To Whom it May Concern;
I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Mrs. Bonita Mitchell and the I’m Saving Myself program she has created for working with young people. I began working closely with Mrs. Mitchell in a professional capacity while I was teaching at the Benton Harbor Girls Academy, a 3rd - 8th grade private school in Benton Harbor, Michigan in 2015. Mrs. Mitchell created a unique program to meet the needs of the BHGA students for the three years I taught at the academy. In 2018 I took a principal position at Michiana Christian Academy in South Bend. MCA was in need of a music program, upon my recommendation, Mrs. Mitchell was contracted to create a program for our Kindergarten - 8th grade students. I cannot recommend Mrs. Bonita Mitchell and the I’m Saving Myself Program highly enough. The enthusiasm, integrity, and genuine love that she brings to the table is incomparable to other performance programs. Because of Mrs. Mitchell’s experience in the professional performance field, her insight and attention to detail as she works with young people is exceptional. She has a unique way of inviting and drawing students into the program. Not only do students have an opportunity to explore their own talents and interests through Mrs. Mitchell’s program, they are also empowered to recognize their unique value as a human being. Mrs. Mitchell uses the I’m Saving Myself program as a tool to meet a child where he or she is and to then move the child forward into a place of self-discovery and empowerment. At the conclusion of each program, Mrs. Mitchell facilitates a performance that is a collective representation of the students who participated. Each ending performance is a unique celebration of the students and their God-given talents. The pastor of our affiliated church reported that in his 27 years experience of watching performances put on at MCA, the performance facilitated by Mrs. Mitchell was by far the best he had seen. At the beginning of the program at MCA, approximately 50% of our student body was apprehensive about participating. By the end of the program, with Mrs. Mitchell’s encouragement, every student not only participated, but did so enthusiastically. Mrs. Mitchell will bring fresh perspective and passion to any program that she partners with. I recommend her without reservation, and believe her compassionate mindset and unique program will add an everlasting benefit to the character of your student body. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at pbritt@gomca.org . Sincerely,
Mrs. Pam Britt

TESTIMONIAL
Hatch Accepted to Music School in New York B y T eresa H atch High school wasn’t always a pleasant experience for me. The amount of challenges I faced greatly over shadowed the accomplishments I managed to make. Despite this, the times in which my personal desires shown bright throughout my own personal darkness were moments I will never be able to forget. The most notorious example of such a situation was in ninth grade when I was introduced to the Thread of Hope Records (TOHR) , “I’m Saving Myself” program. Initially, I was very cold to the ISM program simply because as a pessimistic teen I felt as if I had better things to do than to sit in an auditorium, and get lectured on some menial event. But as the presentation went on, I started to hear what ISM was actually about. It wasn’t just another neuro-type telling me to drink water and do yoga, and I’ll never be sad. This program was an open hand. For many years, I struggled with depression, and never sought out help. My negative mindset caused me to believe in the fact that somehow I deserved to be in such a miserable mental state. But one can only harbor such a high level of self-deprecation until it all becomes too much. It took me a long time to want to get better despite feeling so comfortable in the ISM program. It wasn’t a cure all. But the joy I found in working together with other people and doing things that I loved, basically forced me to get back into the hobbies that depression made me drop. It set me back on track. ISM is more than what initially meets the eye. The moods and confidence of everyone who I’ve seen participate boosts exponentially after a few weeks. It forces students to bond with one another, and find common ground despite so many differences. My peers and I still managed to meet in the middle and become friends throughout the program. I’m incredibly thankful for Bonita for choosing to come to Covert, and give less advantaged students the one up they really need. I hope to continue to hear news about TOHR & ISM, and how it affects lives like mine for many years to come.

sandyimanse GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
March 1, 2021
To Whom It May Concern:
As a school guidance counselor in a small rural school district, the suicidal death of a popular senior traumatizes everyone in the school. When this happened to my school, about 20 years ago, I knew I needed some kind of counseling program for my students and staff before another student may be lost. A school secretary told me about Mrs. Bonita Mitchell and her Thread of Hope Records program. I thought expressing our grief through music would be the perfect counseling approach to use, especially with children. With one phone call, Mrs. Bonita Mitchell was in my school, visiting students in the elementary, middle school and high school to form an all school choir. They worked on a personal musical program, written and sung by our students, along with performers Mrs. Mitchell brought to help us. The theme of the music program was Celebrate Life & Pursue Your Dreams and it was performed in our gymnasium, beautifully decorated with many balloons, with our whole school and some parents in attendance. Music can touch and soothe the soul. With that performance my school was able to be together and draw strength from each other. That wouldn't have been possible without Mrs. Bonita Mitchell and her Thread of Hopes Records program. As a licensed clinical social worker in both Michigan and Indiana, I continue to work with Mrs. Bonita Mitchell in whatever way I can to keep this musical counseling program moving forward to reach and help our children and families.
Sincerely,

Ms. Bonita and Thread of Hope Records (TOHR) have positively impacted my life in several ways. When I first met Ms. Bonita, she exuded with love. A real, genuine love and energy that you could feel whenever you are in a room with her. She runs Thread of Hope Records the same way. This allows anyone who is involved with the program - rather it be clients, staff, or colleagues to immediately establish a level of trust. Trust is imperative in any type of relationship. Secondly, Ms. Bonita has been a phenomenal role model. She not only talks the talk, but she walks the walk. Sometimes, just seeing someone do great things is empowerment in itself. Through watching Ms. Bonita, I have learned that there is no limit to what I can accomplish. Ms. Bonita and TOHR has impacted me. It was through her trust and confidence in me that positioned me very strategically, and gave me the freedom to use my skills and talents. This impacted me in that I felt more confident to go above and beyond in my position, and break glass ceilings. The program nurtured my ability to be innovative. That is priceless. She has pushed me to be great, and challenged every doubt I’ve had about my ability to succeed. Another way I have been impacted is by the connection to people and resources I have received from working for the TOHR program. That has played a crucial role in me branching out, and empowering others in so many different ways. I could go on and on about the impact and influence Thread of Hope has had on my life, but it would take all day to read. I am so grateful for Ms. Bonita, Thread of Hope Records, and just her spirit. I undoubtedly owe much of my success to her.
