C R Y f r om R U S S I A The cry for help from Russia is loud and urgent. The darkness of these people is dense, their suffering is intense and their need is appalling. The present opportunity to help our brethren in Russia and evangelise other Slavonic countries should interest all Christian people, everywhere. Let us send you our magazine The Friend of Russians with authentic reports from all parts of the Russian Mission Field. God is working there mightily. We should enter into harmony with God's mighty movements not only with our prayers, but also with our gifts and energies. The hearts of thousands of Russians have been deeply plowed by their distress and broken by their affliction and they are now calling for help and looking to Ged for Salvation. May we be able to say that the people of God are keeping step with their Leader and are entering the open doors as fast as God opens them? Or, will the Lord find us lagging on behind, because we are not willing to do our part in this great work for fear of the sacrifice it will mean to us? God forbid! Send your gifts for this important soul-saving work to the oldest, fundamental and reliable Mission Work among Russians. The Russian Missionary Society MISS M. N. FETLER, Secretary 1844 W. The whole world was filling His vision, yet the plea of a despised beggar stopped Him. Only the Jesus-touch makes practical ideal ists, with broad vision and practical touch. — S . D . G ordon .

JUNE 1 Knowing Him

“N ow when they saw the boldness o f Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took know ledge o f them, that they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13). Alas, how many of us who, staking our hopes for .usefulness upon the painful as cent of cultural stairs, have found that the Oxford Gate at the top was not the chief entrance to His field of service. Yea, we came through to no better place them the side lines, where we watched in chagrin the exploits of mighty ones who never so much as heard of Lateran Treads or Oxford Gates . . . The people who are strong and do exploits are those who—know their God! — R ichard E llsw o r th D ay .* "And Jesus answered and said unto him, W hat wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him. Lord, that I might receive my sight" (Mk. 10:51). Jesus was a practical idealist. He had ideals, high ideals, the highest He insisted upon them. Yet at every turn he was so simply, warmly practical. He was in the hurting-grip of His purpose to go to the cross, yet He stopped at the cry of need. JUNE 2 Practical Idealism Open My Eyes That I May See By M IN N IE L. SMITH Open my eyes that I may see The wonderful Lord who died for me, Open the Scriptures that I may read O f how His riven side did bleed, Open my thoughts to meditate Upon His sacrifice so great. Then make my heart to burn within That I may go tell those in sin How Jesus Christ did freely give His life a ransom that they might live Forevermore from sin set free— Loving them all eternally. Is there a song so great as this? Is there a theme that brings more bliss? Nol cries my heart, there cannot be, Since there's but One who died for me; So let my voice uplifted be In praise to Him most joyfully. *Reprinted from Filled With the Spirit by special permission o f Zondervan Pub. JUNE 3 Searching

"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts" (Psa. 139: 23). Oh, the graciousness of the hours of revelation! Don’t resent His dealing with you. Let me persuade you to listen to what He says. Said a doctor, as he was minis tering to the need of his patient: “I may hurt you, but I shall not harm you.” The Lord is dealing with you in the convic tion of your shortcomings, and your fail ures, and those things that are grieving the Spirit of God. Yield to Him; respond to Him; dare to say to Him: “Lord, work on; make me to see just what Thou art seeing in me.”— J. R. S. W ilso n . JUNE 4 God’s Supply “Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it” (Psa. 81:10). Our need and God’s inexhaustible sup ply! These two are a conscious reality to the child of God who is walking in fellow ship with Him. It is one of the definite facts which the children of God increas ingly realize, that they are absolutely de pendent upon God for the fulfillment of every want of body as well as of soul. . . . Then to hear of the gracious invitation to open our mouth wide, and to have given to us the assurance that God will fill it— what a comforting assurance, what grace displayed! — S . S t r u y c k . “Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance . . . and forgiveness o f sins" (Acts 5:31). Repentance—yes, it is a gift from God. And there are Christians that need that gift . . . God does not force us back into His will. The father did not send a chariot into the far country and bring back the prodigal son. The prodigal son had to come to himself; he had to change his mind. He had to see that his father was right and that he was wrong, and then humbly to retrace his steps. And when he came back of his own free will, there was the kiss, and the robe, and the ring, and the shoes.—A. L indsay G legg . JUNE 5 A Change of Mind

JUNE 6 Blood-Washed

“Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood" (Rev. 1:5). Can I listen to a thing that is defiling with an ear that has been touched with the hallowing blood of the Redeemer? Can I
