Developing Executive Leadership

Overview The programme provides an engaging introduction to leadership followed by thought provoking debate about what leaders and followers do. The programme focuses on the contextual nature of leadership, leadership crisis, leadership, values and ethics by drawing on real life case studies, while making reference to the relevant literature. The format encourages group collaboration and plenary discussions, providing a multifaceted exploration of leadership across various contexts, from boardrooms to battlefields. Through these discussions, you’ll unravel the fabric of effective leadership in diverse scenarios. You’ll also explore the leadership dilemmas calling on participants’ conceptual and critical thinking to resolving an issue in a complex leadership context. How is the programme structured? This Postgraduate Award will run across four days of face-to-face teaching at our London base in The Shard, with a six week window to complete your assignments. This programme will be assessed by Individual Assignment (100%).

Day 1 Understand what leadership is. You’ll explore the issues that this body of research seeks to address, looking at definitions, examples and practical application and taking a deep dive into effective leadership. Day 2 Build upon your understanding of self and of teamwork. You’ll explore team dynamics to lead for sound, ethical decision making. You’ll also focus on arts-based methodologies for team success. Day 3 increase awareness about issues related to leaders and leadership in organisational practice. You’ll also focus on the role of emotions at work and its implications for leaders and leadership. Day 4 You’ll identify personal development actions that will improve your leadership capability in areas including communication, influencing, building relationships, managing conflict and planning. You’ll also explore your own values and motives.

What will I learn

Develop an understanding in individuals about key leadership concepts. Develop the capability in individuals to engage with leadership practices based on relevant leadership thinking. Develop a critical and analytical approach to leadership thinking and practice. Encourage programme members to discover and apply leadership strategies, tools, practices from a variety of leadership perspectives.
