Lace Up Your Sneakers for a Good Cause at Mulligan’s 5K Fun Run & Walk

BY CHRISTY NIELSON

Mutt Madness has resulted in some incredible adoption stories over the years. Patti Beres from Wisconsin adopted three dogs at three separate Mutt Madness events—Forrest, Oliver, and Keegan, who was a gift for her mother-in-law. “We’re enjoying our little human and fur family greatly, and each member has staked a proper place in the heart and soul of our home,” says Beres. Mark Potocki adopted an older dog named Mama at Mutt Madness 2019 who has a new “leash” on life and has really flourished in her new home. “When she gets in from her morning walk she gets the zoomies, which is crazy compared to when we adopted her, and she loves going out to the pool in the summer,” he reports. “Mama wears her lifejacket and floats on a raft with my wife or my daughters.” Tyler Russell adopted a mixed breed dog at the 2021 event. “I changed her name to Louie immediately since we adopted her in Louisville,” he explains. “So many people suggested that name as I was walking around with her at Expo that by the end of the day her ears were perking up when I said it. She’s a great pup.” Dane Epp of Nebraska adopted a playful puppy named Marco at the 2022 Mutt Madness. Epp’s daughter Ava has become best buddies with Marco. “The Mutt Madness partnership with Equip Expo is really a great cause,” Epp says. “All cities should hold similar events. There are so many dogs in need of a good home.”

Mulligan’s 5K Fun Run & Walk Corner of E. Witherspoon and N. Preston

Don’t forget to pack your tennis shoes and workout clothes for the 40 th Annual Equip Exposition 2023 so you can participate in Mulligan’s 5K Fun Run & Walk, powered by Ariens. The second annual event will once again step off over the Ohio River across the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Louisville. Named for the TurfMutt Foundation’s spokesdog, Mulligan’s 5K Fun Run & Walk starts at 7 AM on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the corner of E. Witherspoon St. and N. Preston St. behind Louisville Slugger Field. Last year, nearly 200 people braved the cold weather to participate in the first-ever Mulligan’s Fun Run & Walk, and Expo organizers expect even more people to lace up their sneakers to take part this year. The entry fee for Mulligan’s 5K Fun Run & Walk is $40, and all proceeds benefit the animals of the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS), which also partners with the TurfMutt Foundation for the annual Mulligan’s Mutt Madness national dog adoption event. Participants will receive a commemorative shirt and a 5K Mulligan Medal. Adding this event to your Equip Expo registration is an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow Expo attendees before the show starts, make wellness a priority, and support a good cause all at the same time.
