Making Moves Actor Edward Finlay discusses new big-screen projects and his move back to the East Coast By Te s s Fa rme r “ I feel the highest Edward Finlay
O riginally from Miami, Eddie Finlay was born and raised there after his parents fled Cuba as political refugees in the late ‘50s. He’s now one of the newest residents of the Atlanta metro area, and he shares with Georgia Hollywood Review his thoughts on coming back East. Finlay is currently filming on the set of the upcoming thriller The Most Dangerous Game with co- stars Bruce Dern and Casper Van Dien. Other recent projects included a Western called A Tale of Two Guns , from writer and director Justin Lee. In between filming, he and his wife, Amy, found a home outside Atlanta and are relocating from the West Coast. “Everyone in the area has been so welcoming to us,” says Finlay. “Our realtor has become like a family friend to us and checks in on the house for us. We really can’t believe the generosity of everyone we’ve met so far.” He adds,“We are really looking forward to Atlanta being home base and getting closer to family in Miami and along the East Coast.” of highs when I’m on set and in that creative process. ”

Soon after his move to Los Angeles 18 years ago, Finlay was cast on the TV series Ocean Ave. , working alongside actresses Megan Fox and Rebecca Ferguson. During that time, he was cast for a role with Michael Bay on Bad Boys II and landed a supporting role on 2 Fast 2 Furious , playing Agent Jason Dunn, working with director John Singleton, Paul Walker, Tyrese Gib- son, and Eva Mendes. His guest-star role as Padre on Modern Family in 2012 was another memorable part, giving him a chance to use his second language and high- lighting his Spanish roots. Finlay will commute from the Atlanta area as film projects are spreading out around the country, especially to the South. He also plans to spend more time writing, with a screenplay in the works chronicling the lives of a few Cuban family members whose stories are rich in history and hardship. “My father always told me that our growth comes through our greatest adversity, and that has continued to serve me well in life and in show business.”

“I truly love the art and craft of acting,” states Finlay. “I feel the highest of highs when I’m on set and in that creative process.” It’s the dedication and commitment to doing what he loves that continues to fuel his growth and career. “There’s nothing more fulfilling professionally for me than having the opportunity to tell someone’s story through this visual form and collaborating with others who value the same end goal.” Getting his start as a successful fashion model, Finlay appeared in campaigns for Abercrombie & Fitch, Versace, and editorials for Vogue . He then immersed himself into learning the ins and outs of the entertainment industry, with some guidance from the
Growing up with three siblings, some of Eddie’s fondest memories were the times spent with his family watching movies. His love for the adventure captured through the screen inspired his imagination and dreams of becoming an actor and artist. He recalls the magic, allure, and adventure of the Star Wars , Indiana Jones , and Superman series. He excelled in sports throughout his youth, as well, and yet it wasn’t until later in high school when he received an opportunity to audition for the lead role in the play Splendor in the Grass for a nearby school that he caught the bug for acting. He won the role and fell in love with the journey, and the process of performing and storytelling.
