2022 Winter Production Dancers' Workshop presents Adventures in Wonderland December 9, 10, 11 Jackson, Wyoming
PRESENTS
DECEMBER 9 • 10 • 11 2022
THE CENTER THEATER
The Art of Tradition Over the past 25 years Dancers’ Workshop has created six original productions based on various fairy tales to rotate through the formative years of students studying dance with us. These Winter Productions have literally become a part of our community’s holiday season tradition; families gather, public and private schools attend, and DW students look forward each year to performing for audiences of all ages. All of this takes shape in a truly professional and creative environment. The process begins at the end of every summer when we decide which production will be presented. The announcement of what the production will be each year is anticipated with great excitement and determined by DW staff as we assess the students’ strengths and challenges of those who are performing. It takes “a village” to produce these productions… • A CreativeTeam of professional choreographers teach, direct, and reset choreography specifically for each dancer • An Obie Award winning actor works with students in rehearsals on acting skills • The Center’s Technical Director oversees all rehearsals in the theater • 4 Center for the Arts backstage hands support during rehearsals and performances • A professional lighting designer travels from Salt Lake City to work the production • The sound score is created and edited during live rehearsals • A local architect builds and paints scenery • Costumes for a cast of over 100 are constructed, rented and purchased by a “secret agent” • Over 100 students carry the lead roles while professional dancers/teachers support them in minor, mostly humorous roles… such as doors! • A “saint” offers a $50,000 match gift to help us cover over $120,000 in expenses • A community of parents drive, feed and give emotional support to the entire cast through months of rehearsals and performance • And to top it off, you all come to support us and cheer us on!! All of us at Dancers’ Workshop are so glad you are here with us today and whether or not you take note of all the little details and moments we have dearly constructed …we hope you feel them….laugh, cheer, cry and allow yourself to be swept away in the fantasy of this community tradition of storytelling.

Meet Alice mere moments before her world is quite literally turned upside down. After following the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole, she enters a world where the “ordinary” simply does not exist. Wonderland is a sight to see! As Alice considers which doorway to enter, she is overwhelmed by the sheer absurdity of it all and begins to sob in confusion. Her watering eyes create a “Sea Of Tears” and, as she finds herself floating along, she meets a curious crew of creatures. Alice’s adventures continue when she encounters a caterpillar that turns into a field of butterflies, a set of oddball twins, a frightening flock of Ravens and a carefree clutch of Blue Jays, the mysterious Cheshire Cat, and the zany Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!
Where, oh where, will the White Rabbit go next?

Scurrying after the White Rabbit, Alice happens upon a pair of Playing Cards who invite her into the Queen’s garden. A beautiful White Rose greets her. Knowing the Queen only wants red roses in her kingdom, the frantic cards attempt to paint the White Rose’s Rosebuds red. The Cards are interrupted by the Queen and her court. The Queen orders the beheading of the White Rose, but Alice intercedes, presenting the Queen with a beautiful Red Rose. The Queen orders a game of croquet to begin, with live Flamingos as mallets and Hedgehogs as balls. Alice’s giggles soon melt away when the Queen discovers that the delicious tarts - the winning prize - have been stolen! The mischievous Knave of Hearts blames innocent Alice. The Queen hastily calls a trial, and the jury finds Alice guilty. Out of nowhere, a monstrous Jabberwocky and her Jibber Jabbers appear. Alice is terrified of this nightmarish Wonderland and wishes to return to the simple company of her cat. She closes her eyes, and when brave enough to open them, finds that her wish has been granted.

The School at Dancers’ Workshop provides creative movement and formal dance instruction for youth ages 18 months to 18 years. Each week, The School at DW offers 50 classes based on a progressive curriculum in ballet and modern technique as well as hip hop and other popular dance styles. Our faculty is comprised of professional dancers with a wide background in the field and a deep passion for sharing their expertise. Believing that the process of creation, rehearsal, and performance are integral to the training and growth of young artists, DW presents professionally-produced performance opportunities for all students — including the one you’re about to enjoy. It’s a cherished tradition that we’ve upheld for half a century, and we’re grateful that you’ve joined us for Adventures in Wonderland.
JUNIOR REPERTORY COMPANY
The Junior Repertory Company (JRC) of Dancers’ Workshop is a pre- professional dance company for highly dedicated students who strive to expand their technical, performing, and artistic dance abilities. Company members are offered extra performance opportunities, access to guest artists, more training hours, and have a higher level of commitment to their training in The School at Dancers’ Workshop. Members of the JRC demonstrate a deep commitment, high-quality character, and leadership skills. The JRC’s high standards and expectation of excellence in class and rehearsal result in professional work in performance and reflect in each dancer’s growth as an artist. As evidenced by Adventures of Wonderland , each dancer dedicates hard work, perseverance, consistency, and passion to their craft. It is DW’s mission to leave each JRC member with the tools to support a future in dance and the capacity to take on all their future endeavors.
