A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

Well done to the Year 7 students who played in the Cricket and Rounders matches this week. Reports of how they got on will follow next week. I would like to say thank you and well done to all the students who contributed to the letters to the Year 6 students who will be joining in September. They made some very thoughtful suggestions about how to successfully settle into life at Waldegrave as well as sharing news about all of the different events and activities they have been involved in this school year.

This week, our Year 7s took part in the Echo creative workshop — a powerful day of reflection and creative exploration, in collaboration with Orleans House Gallery, Richmond Climate Change, and Royal Holloway University. Dr Briony Hellon-Hughes and Dawn Stevens. Through eco-poetry, art, movement, discussion, and the creation of “Pest Postcards,” students explored themes of environment, overlooked spaces, and social change. Their imagination, curiosity, and thoughtful engagement were a real highlight.

MRS BASHFORD-HYNES, HEAD OF YEAR 7 Next week we are looking forward to welcoming Year 7 parents on Thursday and Friday morning. Year 7 students are excited to tour their parents around the school and talk to them about what they have been up to this year. We’re excited to build on this work in a follow-up session in July, with plans for a pop-up exhibition and further student-led eco-initiatives, including sustainability design challenges, tree care, and bird box projects. Workshops like Echo show the power of creative learning to deepen connection — with nature, with each other, and with the world around us. Well done to the following students who are just outside the top 3 positions in Individual Epraise points and challenging for the top 3 places: Emma C (7PCO), Eva M (7EEL), Nethra G (7EEL), Emilia B (7ESU), Marianne M (7PFO), Lily KJ (7PCO) and Erika C (7SDE). Our top 5 placing tutor groups for epraise:1st 7PFO, 2nd 7EEL, 3rd 7PCO, 4th 7SDE and 5th 7SON. A reminder that the Epraise shop is open so students can now spend their points.

‘Arsenic For Tea’ by Robin Stevens A murder-mystery, with two curious girls as the main protagonists – Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong. As chaos unfolds around them, they try to solve the clues like full-on detectives, but unpaid, of course. Daisy’s mother throws a tea party, with the whole family invited but when one of them mysteriously falls ill with food poisoning and then passes away Wells and Wong are suspicious. Who could have done it, and how? The book is a thrilling read, as you unpick the clues with our protagonists. To suspect a character and find out the truth is a whole adventure without having to leave home. I picked this book from the series specifically because of how suspenseful it was. Almost every character seemed like the culprit, every single one of them acted edgy, so it was even harder to work out. This is the second book in the series, so I recommend reading the first book first, but there are other books in the series as well, so if you enjoyed this one, there are many more to enjoy!
