■ ^ h e re is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. There is a generation, 0 how loftly are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. There is a generation,whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men. Proverbs 30:11-14 Item: MARIJUANA— at least 12 million Americans have tried it. Item: “ For the first time,” says California psycho­ pharmacologist, Dr. Leo Hollister, “ pot (marijuana) is entrenched in our society, with untold millions using the drug. We have passed the point of return.” Time magazine, September 26, 1969. Item: Church youth leader exposed as a pusher of dangerous drugs. Item: Pastor calls a moratorium on youth activi­ ties in church after young people’s leader makes declaration to church elders that sin is only what the individual concludes is sin. He made this statement OCTOBER, 1970

after revealing that he had sponsored a pot and dance party for youth of the church. Item: 16-year-old girl returned to her home by police after an admitted two-week binge of sex, drunkenness and narcotics. Showing no remorse, she stated that this was the happiest two weeks of her life. On further questioning, she said that her parents were living examples of good Christians and that she had no family-connected reason for her actions. There have been many books and articles w rit­ ten about the problems facing the world as the up­ coming generation is swept away in a tide of self- destruction, debauchery, and anarchy. There have been many suggestions as to the cause and cure for these searching young people. Much of the blame has been placed upon the older generation which now, at least, voices a concern. If any real under­ standing of the problem is to be gained, it must come from the only source of truth, God’s Word. The Bible has much to say about rebellion and narcotics, the two words which best identify the subculture of to­ day's youth. In Judges 2:8-10 is recorded the passing of a morally sound and godly generation whose chief pa- 15
