The command is, “ The same commit thou” : the same, nothing more, nothing less; the same in sub ject, essence, and power. You are dealing with the Water of Life. Don’t poison, dilute, or analyze it; just pass it on. Millions are thirsty for it. You are shar ing the Bread of Life. You cannot make it or bake it; you must not break it. Take it from the Master’s hand and heed His Word, “ Give ye them to eat.” An astonishing multitude will be fed. Paul Fleming, founder of New Tribes Mission said, “ Nothing is worth anything in Christianity unless it can multiply itself with a chain reaction." The Navi gators can show on paper how if one wins another one and this is duplicated in turn, the whole world can be evangelized in 32 years. It’s nice on paper, but in practical life it’s different. Here are eight examples of such a chain reaction in history: 1. In the 18th century God prepared and anoint ed Count Nikolaus Zinzendorf. 2. John Wesley met Zinzendorf and was chal lenged by him. 3. George Whitefield met John Wesley and was helped by him. 4. David Brainerd was challenged by Whitefield. 5. Henry Martyn read Brainerd's Memoirs and was moved. 6 . David Livingstone read Martyn’s story and was led to go to Africa. 7. Dr. A. B. Simpson, Livingstone’s nephew, was led to form the Christian and Missionary Alliance Mission. 8 . Missionary statesmen Robert Glover and R. A. Jaffray dedicated their lives after hearing Simpson speak. In your hand is the key to someone’s life. Are you going to touch someone else and keep the chain reaction going? Let’s face it. This “ one by one” work is rough. Likely it is the most discouraging and disheartening work there is for a time. But God knows this and so does Satan. Satan will do all he can to discourage a person who starts out on the 2 x 2 principle, to divert and derail him from following through on this. However, God is faithful and promises to give the grace and strength needed. On the mission field, the missionary’s bad points, physically and spiritually, show up like a sore thumb. There is a desperate need to train “ Timothys” in foreign countries. In this way you can multiply your self many times. The national not only has the lan guage but also understands the customs, culture, and psychology. They know the situation much better than any outsider can ever know it. One foreign pastor said, “ The missionaries’ main job should be sitting in a school, teaching students to do the work, but he shouldn’t go out and evan gelize himself.” That is only half true. If a mission ary only sits behind a desk and teaches, the Timothys he is teaching will grow up with a teacher-complex. THE KING’S BUSINESS

Training Your Timothy or 'Like Father, Like Son" A Japanese proverb refers to Kani no Kyoiku, or “ crab’s education.” This means that even though a father crab says to his little son, “ Look, from now on I want you to walk straight,” the fact is that the baby crab always walks sideways. Why? Because he was born that way! That proverb in human life means “ like father, like son; like preacher, like people.” “ What you are speaks so loudly people can’t hear what you say,” is another oft-quoted saying. Many times people hear your life before they hear your words. What you are discolors your words so much they can’t actually understand what you’re trying to say. Ministers and missionaries are responsible for the spiritual standard of the churches. Our own re sistance is characterized by an organization-guided, humdrum existence. The native church unmistakably chose its parentage by its thoughts. That is why our new missionaries must be revived. The need is des perate and real. The nationals see the dull routine of a missionary going to the office, checking in and out, carrying home the groceries to the wife. They see nothing challenging about that. They say, “ I saw what you were doing and imitated you.” Dawson Troutman, founder of the Navigators, said, “ You’ll never solve your problems until you’re spending time regularly telling the secret of a Chris tian life to another man, your own Timothy.” He called it “ the 2 x 2 system.” II Timothy 2:2 shows that Paul taught Timothy, Timothy taught other men, and they in turn taught others. The imperative ques tion is, “ If you died today, who have you trained to do your work tomorrow?” 40
