Newton Solney Newton Solney is a small picturesque village which is situated 2 miles North East of Burton on Trent in the Trent Valley. Close by is the village of Repton, the ancient capital of the kingdom of Mercia and home to the world famous Repton School. A writer in the 1950s described Newton Solney as ‘ A village planted out in a garden, and half its population seem to be gardeners ’. Although the village has grown in size since then it still maintains its immaculate image and has won countless Best Kept Village in Derbyshire competitions. Burton on Trent Burton on Trent is renowned for its brewing industry; however brewing no longer dominates the local economy. Food, engineering and distribution all now play a role.
