Portland, Oregon — “What did Jesus mean in Luke 22:42 about the taking of the cup from him. The verse reads, ‘Saying, Father, if thou be willing, re move this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.’ ” A. Some feel there was an attempt on the part of Satan at this point to kill the Lord Jesus Christ before He went to the cross. Perhaps the reason he sweat great drops of blood was be cause of the strangulation effort of the devil. He wanted to go on to the cross and complete the atonement. But there is another beautiful thought which we should also consider. For this is the only time in all eternity Christ was about to have fellowship broken with His Father.
