ers would immediately cry to Rome for help. After several years, the Roman government told them, “You’re very foolish. Why don’t you actually become a part of our Empire? Then when the invaders start a war, they’ll find they’re actually attacking Rome. You’ll then be left alone and unmolest ed.” The magistrates of the little prov ince responded, “No, we want to be a state to ourselves.” But the next time the intruders came, Rome was not standing by to answer the distress calls. The people begged to become a part of the great empire, and rejoiced in the privilege which was finally granted. When the Roman flag un furled over the community it was no longer a little state, it was a part of Rome. It could say to any alien force, “Touch us if you dare, but suffer the consequences of Rome.” Perhaps many of us have stood alone when trouble comes. Only then have we gone to God; when the way became too hard. The Lord has said to us, in effect, “Why don’t you join Me? Put down your pride and place my banner over your head.” When you do that, you will find the devil thinking twice be fore he dares to attack. So often, if we do get up enough nerve to ring a doorbell and find out that no one is home, we are greatly relieved and check them off our list. God has en trusted to each of us the ministry of witnessing, talking to othersabout their need of Christ as Saviour. Are you ready to give an answer to every man a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness andfear? * Children brought upin Sunday school, are seldom brought up in court. * * * DAMAGE TO THE BRAIN Our own K ing ’ s B usiness maga zine carried an interesting editorial declaring, "It was quite ironical that the appearance of a large billboard in the business district of Los Angeles carried a huge portrait of a shrewd businessman with a slogan displayed alongside of it implying that real in telligence requires a certain brand of 30 * *
