Respected Scholars and Practioners in Nonprofit Leadership andManagement The University of Maryland School of Public Policy and its Do Good Institute are home to a growing group of respected scholars and accomplished practitioners in nonprofit leadership and management. Our faculty and programs have recently earned distinguished awards, positions, and publications including: • Angela Bies is co-editor-in-chief, Nonprofit & Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ). Her article “The State and the State of the Art on Philanthropy in China” was published in Voluntas (July 2019) • M. Apolonia Calderon, co-authored a piece in February’s Voluntas entitled “Serving Immigrant Communities: Effectiveness of Nonprofit Legal Aid Organizations in an Age of Heightened Enforcement” • Alex Counts published a new book, Changing the World Without Losing Your Mind: Leadership Lessons from Three Decades of Social Entrepreneurship, which was selected as an ‘Editor’s Pick’ at the Chronicle of Philanthropy • Nathan Dietz co-authored a 2018 NVSQ article, “Bridging or Deepening the Digital Divide: Influence of Household Internet Access on Formal and Informal Volunteering” • Claire Dunning won ARNOVA’s 2017 Rudney Award for Best Dissertation • Toby Egan won the 2017 best article in Human Resource Development Quarterly, and Sage Publications recognized Egan as the top human capital scholar • Robert Grimm led the School to win the 2017 Voinovich Public Innovation Prize from NASPAA and testifed on “Inspiring Universal Voluntary Service Among America’s Youth” for the National Commission on Military, National and Public Service created by Congress • Joannie Tremblay-Boire received the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Emerging Scholar Award in2020. And, she won the 2016 William E. Mosher and Frederick C. Mosher Award for best article in Public Administration Review (PAR).
