Free Citizenship Education Classes Classes will meet in-person only Instruction in U.S. history and government to prepare for the USCIS citizenship exam and interview. They supplement the free ESL classes. Classes are designed for students who are at an intermediate or advanced level. Registration • To register and pay, visit oakton.edu/conted, select ESL, and select Supplemental ESL courses. • These classes are tuition based. Prepare for the TOEFL with timed practice on similar tests. Become familiar with test formats and language problems encountered by other non-native speakers. Free Reading/Literacy Classes * Classes are for native and non-native adult speakers of English who wish to improve their reading, writing or math skills. Lead teachers direct trained tutors to help students develop these skills for personal or employment needs. Literacy classes will be held online and in-person. Online classes require the student to have a device with internet access. The College may have Chromebooks available to borrow. Prospective Literacy/Reading students should fill out the pre-registration form which can be found at oakton.edu/conted . We will contact you regarding registration, testing and your class assignment. Important: • Students must be at least 17 years old. • Enrollment after the first class is permitted if space allows. • Classes are not appropriate for students enrolled in or planning to enroll in high school. • Reading/Literacy students may not enroll in the Bridges program . • Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment. Au Pairs: Per ICCB (Illinois Community College Board) regulations, au pairs are required to take post-secondary classes and cannot enroll in Oakton’s free Reading classes. They may, however, enroll in the College’s supplemental tuition-based classes. Literacy classes are not intended for tourists, but rather for those who have come to live in the United States.
