Awards banquet is seeking nominations

CORNWALL | The Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce Business Excel- lence and Citizen of the Year Awards ban- quet will kick off a year of celebrations as the business association marks 125 years of service to the community. “We are now seeking nominations for the various awards,” said Chamber Executive Manager Lezlie Strasser. “Because it will be the Chamber’s 125th anniversary year, the winners during the Awards Banquet will be- come part of a very special group.” The event will take place on February 21 in the Salons of the Cornwall Civic Complex beginning at 6:00 p.m. Reservations are available. “While we traditionally pay tribute to business professionals, companies, and in- dividuals who have made a positive differ- ence in the community, this year’s winners will be part of an even larger celebration — 125 years of Chamber service to the busi- Graffiti vandal wanted by police Cornwall Police is seeking help from the public, in order to stop a graf- fiti vandal on the run. On December 7, the Cornwall Community Police Ser- vice investigated a series of mischief complaints in the area of Prince Ar- thur Street, Millville Avenue and First Street East. Investigation revealed that numerous vehicles as well as residen- tial and business properties had been spray painted. Graffiti was observed on the cars and properties and several other vehicles had physical damage done. Anyone that might have informa- tion about this crime or any other crime should contact D/Cst. Day at 933-5000 ext 2738 or ext # 2404 to leave anony- mous information. Starting a fire landed a 14 year old Cornwall girl in deep water. The Cornwall youth was arrested on December 11 and charged with arson. It is alleged that on November 26, police were called to a Second Street West home in relation to a suspicious fire and an investigation ensued. On December 11, during their investigation, the youth was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. Her name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Cornwall youth caught for arson

Dozens of firms and individuals have been recognized for excellence in the Corn- wall area’s business sector with others hon- oured for outstanding contributions to the community as a whole. There are a total of nine awards plus the

Citizen of the Year. The business awards in- clude Business, Economic Impact, Entrepre- neur, Lifetime Business Achievement, and Small Business. There are also the Above and Beyond and Team Cornwall Ambas- sador awards. Two additional ones, Break- through and the Dr. Garth Taylor Humani- tarian awards, are presented only when there are worthy candidates. A prestigious individual award is the Citi- zen of the Year. Since it was inaugurated,

more than 40 local citizens have received the award, bestowed annually on someone whose selfless commitment to the com- munity and its people has made Cornwall a better place to work and to live. “The Chamber would like anyone who knows of a deserving firm or individual to take the time to submit a nomination,” add- ed Strasser. “It’s your chance to recognize someone in our community who has made a positive difference.”
