Lifting the Next Generation: Statewide Career Fairs Inspire Future Builders Over 1,200 students participated statewide—our biggest year yet. 40+ COMPANIES
From snow to sun to storms, students showed up—and so did our members.
Despite unpredictable weath- er—snow in Cedar City, clear skies in Ogden, and heavy rain at UVU—students showed up eager to learn, and member companies delivered. Dozens of firms provided equipment, activities, and time to ensure attendees had a chance to explore the trades in a tan- gible way. From driving heavy equipment to operating simu- lators and learning about proj- ect management and safety, students engaged directly with tools and professionals that
brought construction careers to life. This year marked a major step forward in the program’s growth. In 2024, only two events were held. Now with three completed and two more planned for Salt Lake Commu- nity College (SLCC) and Utah Tech University, the initiative is gaining serious momentum. The growing interest from both students and schools under- scores the demand for indus- try-led workforce outreach.

Building a Safer Industry
MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS Strong mental health boosts team safety. EMERGENCIES AND ACTION PLANS Clear plans improve emergency response. FALL PROTECTION STRATEGIES Proper training prevents dangerous falls.
Safety is a shared effort that shapes our entire industry.
This spring marked a milestone for AGC of Utah as we hosted the 27th Annual Safety Confer- ence for the first time in our AGC Training Center. From classroom work- shops and auditorium keynotes to interactive lab sessions, the event transformed every corner of the building into a hub of learning, collaboration, and innovation. With over 200 industry professionals in atten- dance and more than 40 vendor booths, the conference offered some-

thing for everyone, including field leaders, safety manag- ers, executives, and emerging professionals. A key highlight of the day was the dynamic vendor showcase, where companies from across the industry connected directly with attendees to share solu- tions, demonstrate products, and spark conversations on how their businesses can help advance safety, efficiency, and innovation on Utah jobsites. It was a powerful reminder that safety is a shared effort and
that the right tools, partner- ships, and technologies can make a meaningful difference. The agenda tackled some of the most pressing topics in construction safety, including OSHA updates, mental health resources, heat safety plan- ning, crane operations, ergo- nomics, fall protection, and trenching hazards. Attendees explored strategies for devel- oping emergency action plans, improving subcontractor and general contractor collabora- tion, and listened to a speaker,

Melissa Camp Vice President of Finance & Operations
We’re thrilled to spotlight Melissa Camp, our incredible VP of Finance and Operations, who has been a cornerstone of AGC for an impressive 23 years! Me- lissa is the mastermind behind our biggest annual events like the summer golf tournament. Outside the office, Melissa’s world is pure Disney magic, with yearly trips to Disneyland or Disney World with her six kids. She’s also a dedicated hockey fan, and loves watching games with her firefighting husband Chad. She is also a music lover with a special place in her heart for piano.
Cheryl Glassett Administrative Assistant
We’re excited to highlight Cheryl Glassett, who joined the AGC team in November 2019 after eight incredible years living in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. After returning to Utah and reentering the workforce following 20 years raising two children, Cheryl has truly found her stride as our Ad- ministrative Assistant, thriving on the daily variety and the fun of hosting classes. When she’s not keeping AGC running smoothly, Cheryl’s likely planning her next adventure — she’s a big fan of travel, cruises, and chasing the latest headlines as a proud news junkie. She’s also got a soft spot for Diet Coke and Mexican food.

Q2 Legislative Scoop | April - June
Stay Up-To-Date
Q2 Legislative Scoop
Utah’s construction industry continues to be at the center of major policy conversations at the state and federal levels. From new state-led efforts to streamline development to sweeping national tax reforms, AGC is actively engaged in representing contractors’ interests across all levels of government. Here are the key devel- opments from Q2: 1 Governor Cox announced the creation of the Utah Build Council, an interagency initiative designed to accelerate project timelines and remove regulatory roadblocks for development across the state. The council brings together state agencies to reduce red tape and coordinate more efficiently, with the goal of enabling faster, cleaner, and more cost-effective project delivery. AGC of Utah is actively engaged with executive-level staff to monitor this Coun- cil’s progress and provide industry feedback. Governor’s Build Council Aims to Stream- line Construction and Development 2 Federal Tax Reform: “Big, Beautiful” Bill Brings Major Construction Impacts Federal tax legislation spearheaded by President Trump passed in Q2 and carries significant implications for the construction indus-
try. Key components include: • Changes to bonus depreciation and expensing caps for equipment • Revisions to estate taxes, re- search and development cred- its, and individual tax brackets
• Adjustments to pass-through taxation
• Expanded Pell Grant eligibility for short-term workforce training • Potential impacts on the Highway Trust Fund and energy-related tax credits
• Modifications to multifamily construction exemptions
AGC of Utah is working closely with AGC of America to analyze the bill’s impact and communicate changes. Members can visit our website for updates, summaries, and federal resources as details continue to unfold.

Q2 Legislative Scoop | AGC Advocacy Resources
• DFCM Deep Dive Task Force: The Legislature’s ongoing scru- tiny of state construction project costs continues through a task force working with the Department of Facilities and Construc- tion Management (DFCM). AGC has played a key role in shaping recommendations to ensure taxpayer savings while protecting contractor viability and efficiency. • Road and Highway Funding Prioritization: AGC participated in reporting to the Legislature on UDOT funding and procure- ment processes. With growth on the horizon, AGC is reinforc- ing the need for reliable funding and smart prioritization while continuing to support and collaborate with UDOT. • Elevator Inspection Reform: In collaboration with the Utah La- bor Commission, AGC successfully negotiated internal reforms that will: • Expand inspection availability to three days per week for new units • Set a target to complete inspections within five business days of request • Improve transparency by copying contractors on inspec- tion communication • Streamline inspections to ensure they are fully completed in one visit • A full summary of these changes will be available on the Advocacy Newsroom page of our website in mid-July. 3 State Project Oversight and Legislative Policy Focus
Following Representative Jefferson Moss’s departure to the Governor’s Office of Economic Develop- ment, the Utah House Republican Caucus selected a new Majority Leader, Majority Whip, and Assis- tant Whip. This leadership change brings in a younger generation of lawmakers and may foreshadow evolving legislative priorities. AGC will continue to foster relationships and advocate for policies that support construction’s role in Utah’s economic growth. House Leadership Shake-Up Signals Policy Shift 4

Building the Future: Highlights from the Build-The-World Girls Construction Camp This summer marked the second year of the Build-A-World Girls Construction Camp, hosted in both Salt Lake City and Southern Utah—and what a success it was!
Our first camp kicked off in June in Salt Lake City, welcoming over 25 high school-aged girls eager to explore the world of construction. More than 15 com- panies generously participated, providing sponsorships, equip-
ment, employee volunteers, swag, gear, and hands-on in- struction to help make the camp an unforgettable experience. The three-day camp blended classroom learning with hands- on activities. The girls received
safety and PPE training, trying on hard hats, vests, and other essential gear. They tackled hands-on projects in carpen- try, building planter boxes and crates; learned electrical basics by assembling Bluetooth speak- ers they took home; explored welding and plumbing through PVC golf ladder projects; and gained an introduction to civil engineering with activities like water filtering and bridge build- ing. In addition to the technical skills, participants heard from a diverse panel of profession- als across trades, office roles, construction management, marketing, and VDC (Virtual Design and Construction), giving them a glimpse into the wide
range of career opportunities in the industry. A highlight was the chance to operate heavy equipment, including learn- ing the safety and operation of excavators. The Salt Lake camp wrapped up with a site tour at A-Core Concrete, where the girls tried their hand at concrete cor- ing and drilling. The following week, the camp headed to St. George, where more than 15 girls participated. They enjoyed a similarly rich ex- perience of hands-on learning, workshops, and panel discus- sions. Their site tour included a visit to a homebuilding site, where they observed various phases of construction first- hand.
From hard hats to heavy equip- ment—these girls did it all.
