Building the Future: Highlights from the Build-The-World Girls Construction Camp This summer marked the second year of the Build-A-World Girls Construction Camp, hosted in both Salt Lake City and Southern Utah—and what a success it was!

Our first camp kicked off in June in Salt Lake City, welcoming over 25 high school-aged girls eager to explore the world of construction. More than 15 com- panies generously participated, providing sponsorships, equip-

ment, employee volunteers, swag, gear, and hands-on in- struction to help make the camp an unforgettable experience. The three-day camp blended classroom learning with hands- on activities. The girls received

safety and PPE training, trying on hard hats, vests, and other essential gear. They tackled hands-on projects in carpen- try, building planter boxes and crates; learned electrical basics by assembling Bluetooth speak- ers they took home; explored welding and plumbing through PVC golf ladder projects; and gained an introduction to civil engineering with activities like water filtering and bridge build- ing. In addition to the technical skills, participants heard from a diverse panel of profession- als across trades, office roles, construction management, marketing, and VDC (Virtual Design and Construction), giving them a glimpse into the wide

range of career opportunities in the industry. A highlight was the chance to operate heavy equipment, including learn- ing the safety and operation of excavators. The Salt Lake camp wrapped up with a site tour at A-Core Concrete, where the girls tried their hand at concrete cor- ing and drilling. The following week, the camp headed to St. George, where more than 15 girls participated. They enjoyed a similarly rich ex- perience of hands-on learning, workshops, and panel discus- sions. Their site tour included a visit to a homebuilding site, where they observed various phases of construction first- hand.
