I n a concerted effort to fortify the mental health landscape of Dane County, Safe Communities extends a funding opportunity to schools and youth-serving organizations to partake in the im- plementation of Sources of Strength – a distinguished youth mental health promotion and suicide prevention program. This initiative seeks to cultivate resilient communities by equipping educational institutions with evidence-based strategies that foster student well-being, reduce stigma, and nurture a culture of support and resilience. Schools and youth-serving organizations in Dane County are encouraged to engage in the Sources of Strength program to bolster their efforts in promoting mental health literacy, preventing sui- cide, violence, bullying, and substance misuse among students. By embracing this evidence-based Investing in School-Based Programs for Mental Health and Wellness
approach, institutions can harness the power of peer social networks to instill healthy norms and cultivate a positive school climate. The program not only focuses on student well-be- ing but also serves as a Staff Wellness model, emphasizing holistic wellness for all stakeholders involved. Participating schools stand to re- ceive comprehensive support, with 100% coverage of first-year program implementation costs. This includes training, materials, licensing fees, adult advisor stipends, and access to ongoing technical assistance.
