GLEN CANYON EXPERIENCE DEMONSTRATES THE RICHNESS OF MULTIPLE WAYS OF KNOWING C row Canyon’s Cultural Explorations travel programs are designed to facilitate deeper understanding of the diverse cultures and histories of the American Southwest. They challenge what we think we know by
bringing together a variety of voices and perspectives. They are often transformative experiences for those who come with open minds. In 2024, one such program took a small group of inquisitive travelers to the Glen Canyon area of northern Arizona, an area steeped in cultural histories and traditions. Participants were accompanied by guides with deep connections to the area, including Lyle Balenquah (Hopi), member of the Greasewood Clan from Paaqavi Village in northern Arizona. Lyle shared some of the oral history his ancestors had passed along to him.
