order of priests in the New Testament. All believers in the Lord Jesus Christ constitute a Kingdom of Priests. Jesus as our High Priest answered to the four specific characteristics (Num. 16:5): (a) He was chosen of God (Heb. 5:10); (b) He belonged to God (Heb. 7:28); (c) He was holy to God (Heb. 7:26); (d) He offered gifts to God (Heb. 8:3). The high priest was one of the people taken from among men. Jesus was a true man born of a woman—made under the law (Gal. 4:4; Jno. 1:14). He was a perfectly sinless man and also Divine, so that He could make a perfect offer- ing for sin and also impart Divine for- giveness and blessing. He loved us— loosed us from our sin in His own blood and hath made us kings and priests unto God (Rev. 1:5-6). As man He was obedient unto death, " L o I come-to do thy will." He en- tered into the deep experience of men. He hungered, thirsted, wearied, suffered pain and agony, and so bcame acquaint- ed with our needs by practical -partici- pation. He was a perfect man and had no need to offer sacrifice for Himself, and so could offer acceptable sacrifice in Himself for man. He was exalted by God the Father to be our High Priest forever (Heb. 20). He is there in our behalf to represent us—always before the Father (Heb. 7:25). He is in the highest heaven (Eph. 1:20-23). He sits at the right hand of God (Col. 3:1; Heb. 8:1). Through Him we draw near with boldness (Heb. 4:14-16). He sup- plies our need (Phil. 4:19). As High Priest He is our represen- tative and our assurance for time and eternity is based upon the fact that His blood has settled the question of our sins (Col. 1:14-20). His resurrection the questions of our life (Rom. 4:25; Rom. 5:1). His intercession the ques- tion of our acceptance with God (Eph. 1:6). As High Priest He prays for His own (Jno. 17:9) (not for world). He prays that they may be kept (Jno. 17 He\>rays that they may be sanctified (Jno. 17:17). „ a He prays that they may be unified (Jno. 17:21). He prays that they may be glorified (Jno. 17:24), and God will answer His prayer. How our souls should rejoice and magnify the Lord Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:3-12).
Those who delight in the Lord can pray (Psa. 37:4). Humility is an essential to prayer (Psa. 10:7). Those who have committed their way to the Lord (Psa. 37:5). Those who are doing His will accord- ing to their light. Those who are right with God (Prov. 15:8). How to Pray. In the name of Christ (Jno. 14:13- 14). His name stands for Himself—His character (Jno. 15:16). The finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ has given Him the right to grant, to bestow all things upon His followers. All power is given Him. In the Holy Spirit (Jude 20). We should pray intelligently, accord- ing to His will (1 Jno. 5:14). We will know His will through His Word—therefore study His Word. We should pray earnestly (Acts 12: 5, R. Y.; Col. 4:2). With simplicity of words (Matt. 6:7). With faith (Matt. 21:22). When to Pray. Cultivate a spirit of. prayer, for it is a spirit of dependence.
