Baumgarten, RAKO, X-Label Merge To Form All4Labels Baumgarten, RAKO and X-Label, three European label companies, have merged and established a new brand identity – the All4Labels - Global Packaging Group.The privately owned company provides prod- ucts for more than 2,000 customers at 26 production facilities worldwide. The companies made a turnover of more than € 450 million altogether in 2016. The headquarters of the new group are in Witzhave near Hamburg, Germany. The group remains an owner-managed company. Matthias Kurtz and Adrian Tippenhauer of RAKO,Tim Fiedler and Jan Oberbeck of X-label and Fernando Gabel of Baumgarten have remained the members of the executive board. Phoenix Challenge Celebrates 20th Year The Phoenix Challenge Foundation (PCF) is cele- brating its 20th year as a student-driven scholarship program for the flexographic printing industry. The celebration will mark the 20th successful annual High School Challenge and 10th College Competition. “This is a year to celebrate the continued vision of the late Ron & Katherine Harper who were both deeply passionate advocates of education and sus- taining the flexo industry,” said Bettylyn Krafft, Chair- man of PCF. The 20th celebration and PCF High School Skills Competition will be held March 22-24 at the Harper National Flexographic Center at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina.This high school competition sets the stage for young flex- ographers from across the United States and Canada to compete with each other, showcasing their knowl- edge of flexo printing theory and graphic arts. Top performers are rewarded with on-going educational scholarships and prize trophies to encourage further career development. The High School Skills Competi- tion is a live hands-on program which lasts three days, featuring prepress, on-press and general knowledge skills tests related to flexography. More than 20 teams are scheduled to participate in this year’s event. In its 10th year and growing, the PCF College Chal- lenge is happening April 29 in conjunction with the FFTA Annual Forum and INFO*FLEX event to be held in Phoenix,Arizona.This event draws graphic arts stu- dents from leading graphic communications higher education institutions such as Clemson University, CalPoly State University,Appalachian State University, and many more.
