TPT Inspires Awareness and Change
Led by a racially diverse team of producers, writers, and community contributors, Racism Unveiled was a multi-year storytelling initiative that explored and brought awareness to Minnesota’s systemic inequities to help audiences envision and act toward a more equitable future.
A highlight of the Racism Unveiled initiative this past year was the launch of That Got Weird , an innovative, animated series that uses first-person stories, humor, and honesty to spur discussion of everyday racism in Minnesota. The series was released on TPT’s YouTube channel and website. To date, it has drawn over 72,500 views. The series is being actively used as a tool in racial equity training by organizations across the state and nation, including the Minnesota Department of Health, the Minnesota Department of Management and Budget, HealthPartners, and anti-racist community groups beyond Minnesota. Racism Unveiled also continued to illustrate how legacies of racism in Minnesota have contemporary impacts and how barriers to justice and equity are built into our systems. “Racism Is in the Air We Breathe,” a multimedia online storytelling project, spotlighted environmental racism, sharing the Phillips and Hawthorne communities’ fights in Minneapolis to protect the health of their community members (below).
