example, based on how many weeks post-op a patient is, we can only do so many exercises without the risk of protecting the surgically repaired structure. We’re always thinking about what’s best for each case. Even when a patient is doing well in therapy, the human body can’t go from zero to 100. Our programs are incredibly specialized to each patient, and I’m here to help people ease back into work or athletic activities by breaking down movements and exercises that translate into the activity they want to do. Instead of playing a game of tennis, we might hit the ball against the wall. Instead of lifting a heavy box, we might start with relearning proper body mechanics. When I meet with a patient, it’s not about me; it’s not about what I think they’re here for. It’s about getting each person the results they are looking for. I want to know what my patient’s goals are. Do they want to get back to work pain-free? Be able to lift their grandkids up again? It’s not about what goal I think is best — I want to know what they want from us. Then we can work together to achieve it. I know how challenging it can be to recover from an injury or surgery. I like to stay fit myself, so you can often find

Opening up my own occupational therapy practice was a dream come true for me. I love the variation and challenges that come with running my own business, and most of all, I enjoy building relationships with doctors to ensure we are coming up with the best plans for our patients. In the years since we first opened, we’ve established our Queens, Bronx, and Manhasset locations. I’ve enjoyed getting to know each of my patients and I’ve brought on a team who shares my initiative and desire to help others. As someone who loves science, occupational therapy was a natural fit for me. I enjoyed learning about anatomy and how to rehabilitate the body, but it wasn’t until I embarked on my career that I discovered how much joy it brought me to be a part of someone’s recovery. Helping people get back to work or play without pain is the reward that comes with each successful treatment. Specializing in hand therapy allows me to practice the functional, delicate, hands-on therapy that I’m passionate about. It’s more involved than a lot of other types of therapy. I work closely with physicians to develop a treatment plan for patients. Hand therapy is very detailed and protocol-driven. For

me playing some basketball, taking bootcamp classes, and even though I’m not very good, I also go golfing. Being injured and not able to do the activities you enjoy, or the work you need to do, can be discouraging. You forget how important a small movement is until you can’t do it anymore. I love that in occupational and hand therapy we give our patients the tools to get back to their work and play without pain. If you, your friends, or family are experiencing pain or are recovering from surgery, we’re here to help! Give one of our three locations a call and we’ll be happy to talk to you about treatment options. Please reach out if you have any questions, and I look forward to connecting with you each month in our newsletter.

Wishing you a healthy and happy February,

- Nick Roselli
