The aim of this lesson is to prepare participants to ensure HV cable pulling operations are completed thoroughly, safely and effectively with quality, ensuring that cable is installed securely in place.
After having successfully completed this lesson, the participants can:
55) Act independently to complete the cable pulling process, ensuring secure placement, fastening, protection of cable and site restoration (Ability, intermediate level)
ELEMENT 9.1 - CABLE FASTENING
Learning objectives:
56) Distinguish how to securely fasten HV cables using cleats (Skills, intermediate level)
57) Explain methods for securing cables to prevent mechanical or environmental damage (Knowledge, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Demonstrate tools, equipment and techniques for HV cable fastening including:
a. Use of cable cleats of different types, showing correct use of each
b. securely fastening HV cable in place without damage
c. how to determine when the cable is sufficiently secured
c.i minimum number of cleats secured as per specific work instruction
c.ii torque correctly applied using a torque wrench
Showcase the correct use of HV cable cleats demonstrating and explaining:
a.
types
b.
spacing
c.
fastening techniques as per industry standards.
Facilitate a guided hands-on practice exercise to secure cable with cleating tools
