38) Recognise signs of equipment distress such as unusual appearance, smells, taste, sounds, or heat (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Illustrate and demonstrate how to recognise signs of deranged or in distress equipment due to unusual:
a.
sight (appearance) - look
a.i is there evidence of water ingress, condensation or excessive dust or contamination?
b.
sound (noise) - listen
b.i are there any ‘fizzing’ noises or crackling sounds?
c.
smell (odour) or taste
c.i is there an odour of burning, smoke, ozone, rotten eggs or a gassy aroma?
d.
feel (heat)
d.i is there a noticeable change in temperature or excessive heat?
