ELEMENT 10.2 - APPLYING THE FIVE SAFETY RULES / THE GOLDEN FIVE
Learning objectives:
72) Apply the Five Safety Rules or Golden Five Rules to operate safely in HV environments (Skills, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Explain and demonstrate applying the Five Safety Rules or local equivalent to operate safely in HV environments:
1. Disconnect completely
2. Secure against re-connection
3. Verify absence of operating voltage
4. Carry out earthing and short-circuiting
5. Provide protection against adjacent live parts
Facilitate the participants to take part in series of desktop exercises simulating typical HV operations working scenarios. Participant must reflect on the task allocated and apply rules correctly based on:
a.
Five Safety Rules - EN50110-1
b.
The Golden Five - NFPA 70E
c.
or any local equivalent
Lead the class in an activity to prepare the steps of a simple Switching Schedule or Switching Sequence:
a.
applying the principles of the five safety rules
Ensure to use a simple operation for the activity and emphasise that a Switching Schedule is not a task within the normal role of the switching person in the workplace.
