ELEMENT 11.6 - SCENARIO BASED PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES - HV SWITCHING
HV switching scenarios should be developed to include operations proceeding as expected and a range of unexpected issues with equipment and processes, and how to act in those situations.
Note
Ideally scenarios should where possible be based on case studies, incident reports and other relevant real-world examples from the industry.
Scenarios should focus practice mainly on simple switching operations with a single feed versus complex multi-feed switching. They scenarios should emphasise the practical application of the hierarchy of switching within the practical exercise. Time allocated for scenario-based exercises in Lessons 11, 12, 13 and 14 can be combined or divided to provide opportunities to integrate switching, isolation, proving, earthing and testing exercises into coherent scenarios based in real-world work tasks.
The instructor shall:
Facilitate the participants in a range of different HV switching exercises covering switching HV equipment in different conditions and states.
Present scenarios where the participants must assess, lead, assist and carry out designated duties as necessary in a range of HV switching scenarios:
a.
normal conditions proceeding as expected,
b.
different conditions than expected,
c. incorrect or conflicting instructions and information,
d. indicators or readings outside of expected or appropriate range,
e.
missing, incorrect or damaged PPE or tools
f.
documentation incorrect or missing
g.
failures in communication
h. conflicting activities or challenges arising from priorities of adjacent, or other impacting work
i. human factors: undue time pressure, confusion or lack of clarity, conflicting opinions on how to proceed
Give constructive feedback to all participants after each scenario
