ELEMENT 2.3 - CABLE CONSTRUCTION FROM CORE TO OUTER LAYER
Learning objectives:
14) Recognise the difference between HV and LV cables based on structure, characteristics and markings (Knowledge, basic level)
15) Describe the typical construction of HV cables, including core layers and waterproofing features (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Illustrate the difference between HV and LV cables using a range of samples of different cable types.
Use physical examples of HV and non HV cable to illustrate cable construction
a.
from core to outer layer
b.
waterproofing features
The participants shall:
Work in pairs to explore the provided samples of different cable types and identify the difference between HV and LV cables based on structure, characteristics and markings.
Select one sample HV cable and present back to the group its construction, pointing out the core layers and waterproofing features.
ELEMENT 2.4 - AWARENESS OF BASIC ELECTRICAL FIELD THEORY
Learning objectives:
16) Recognise the relevance of basic field theory in the handling of HV cable during pulling and inspection of breakout (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Illustrate the relevance of basic electric field theory to cable pulling through an example incident, story from the workplace or a case study
