Break the participants into small groups and provide an illustration of HV cable operations such as video or photographs of operations underway. Task groups to identify potential sources of hazards:

a.

entrapment hazards from rotating parts

b.

tripping hazards when using rollers for cable pull

c.

hazards from sharp edges, cable grips and chains

d.

dropped cable during pulling operation

Quiz participants on good and bad practices from their experience in:

a.

lifting operations

b.

manual handling and ergonomics

c.

use of PPE

Illustrate how HV cable pulling operations utilise and safely manage the cable pull considering lifting operations, manual handling and ergonomics aspects of the operation.

a.

illustrate proper lifting planning

b. share samples of work instructions for cable pulling tasks.

c. highlight the risks and hazards associated with the operation of auxiliary systems with external generators, e.g. winches, etc.

The participants shall:

Engage in a small group discussion on the possible consequences of unsafe work practices or failure of communications. Working in small teams:

a. list hazards related to work during cable pulling operations

b. suggest how to mitigate hazards related to the environment of the cable pulling task.

c. highlight PPE and apply ergonomic principles that could reduce risks during HV cable pulling.

d. discuss hazards related to the lifting operation during cable pulling and suggest mitigation techniques.

e. highlight how auxiliary systems such as winches and external generators can create hazards to the operation.
