b. Illustrate correct storage methods for HV cables (e.g., cable drums, pallets, protective covers).
Facilitate a discussion with participants on common risks associated with incorrect storage and handling (e.g., cable deformation, insulation damage).
Allocate participants in groups to practice mechanical protection during cable pulling using:
a.
ground covering mats or carpets
b.
edge protection covering mats or carpets
c.
cable rollers are used to support and guide cable
Quiz participants on the reasons for and importance of protecting the breakout
Demonstrate how to apply protective measures such as Rocket/Bullet for cable breakout protection Protecting the breakout
a. Cable handling and protection tools e.g., Rocket/Bullet for breakout protection
The participants shall:
Work in groups to practice proper storage and handling of HV cables to prevent damage in groups
a. Inspect stored cable drums and HV cables, identifying correct and incorrect storage and handling practices.
b. Correct identified issues and demonstrate how to document and communicate them appropriately.
c. Apply protection for cable during pulling using ground covering mats or carpets and rollers
d. Practice applying suitable protection to the break-out in readiness for cable pulling (Rocket, etc.)
Ask and answer questions of fellow participants on good and practices, pitfalls and typical problems
