Operations training
High Voltage Standard / V1 02072025
The instructor shall:
Discuss with the participants proper HV cable handling and stress control techniques
Explain and illustrate techniques and good practices for safe transfer of load from pull to park:
a.
proper HV cable handling and stress control
b. moving and positioning the cable to avoid stress or damage
c.
bending Radius Limits
d.
avoiding damage to the termination
e.
never pull cable ends
f. consequences of improper handling, e.g. Partial Discharge (PD)
Illustrate a range of typical HV cable pulling scenarios to participants and quiz participants on safe approaches to transfer of load from pull to park
Ask open-ended questions about use of additional cable socks and explain when they could be required such as
a.
if max loading is exceeded
b.
moving cable in restrictive areas
c. placing cable into a specific position or configuration for securing the tower loop
The participants shall:
In small groups, discuss typical HV cable pulling scenarios, exploring cable handling and stress control techniques
Work in teams to set up a simulated cable pulling route, identifying potential points where cables could be damaged.
a. select and correctly install appropriate mechanical protection (e.g., mats or carpets).
b. Verify correct installation through peer-checking and instructor review.
