Led by our esteemed PGA Director of Instruction, Bob Lennon, and PGA Director of Player Development, Jenna Soranno, our highly-qualified PGA Professional staff is committed to fostering your improvement and enjoyment of the game. We understand that every golfer is unique. Therefore, our program offers a variety of options to cater to your specific needs and aspirations. MICHAEL SHANK, PGA

Director of Golf

Originally from the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, Michael graduated from the Penn State Professional Golf Management program in 2000. Following school, he spent three seasons at Chevy Chase Club in Maryland and Jupiter Hills Club in Florida, before working five years at Ardsley Country Club in Westchester County, New York. Michael was the Head Golf Professional at North Shore Country Club on Long Island for 10 seasons previous to starting at Wilmington in 2018. He resides in nearby Pennsylvania his wife Heather and son Lucas.

ERIC WILLIAMS, PGA

Head Golf Professional

Originally from Ocean City, Maryland, Eric began his career as a golf professional at Ocean City Golf Club. In 2012, he moved to Wilmington Country Club and progressed to First Assistant Golf Professional. In 2019, he became Director of Golf and General Manager at Hartefeld National Golf Club in Avondale, PA. Eric returned to Wilmington Country Club in July 2023 to serve as Head Golf Professional. His passions are in coaching and development of the membership through individual and group activity. He resides in New London, Pennsylvania with his wife Danielle, son Gavin and daughter Paisley.

BOB LENNON, PGA

Director of Instruction

Bob attended Florida Southern College where he played on their National Championship golf team, turning professional in 1984. Bob was the founder and President of the South Jersey Junior Golf Foundation, a foundation that helped over 1200 children per year. He also owned the Bob Lennon Golf Learning Center at Blue Heron Pines and was the lead instructor for the Golf Digest Schools at Blue Heron Pines for 15 years. Bob has been the Director of Instruction at Wilmington Country Club since 2007. His playing highlights include participation in the Greater Hartford Open and the U.S. Senior Open.

JENNA SORANNO, PGA Director of Player Development

Jenna is a PGA and LPGA Specialized Professional in Teaching and Coaching. She graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a degree in Professional Golf Management and Legal Studies. Previously, Jenna was a Territory Manager for Dunlop Sports Americas and the Director of Player Development at Gulph Mills Golf Club. She is very active in the Philadelphia PGA Section where she sits on the Foundation Committee and the Women’s Committee. She is also a board member and Tournament Chair for Women Golfers Give Back. In her spare time, she is the Director of Golf and Head Coach at the Episcopal Academy and loves to spend time riding horses and with her husband Tim and Dogs, Aspen and Koda.

RYAN RUCINSKI Teaching Professional

Originally from Wilmington, Delaware and a Salesianum High School Alumni, Ryan joined the Professional Staff at Wilmington in 2022. Ryan played Collegiate Golf at Wilmington University, where he competed in three National Championships. While playing Collegiate Golf, Ryan worked part time for four years as a club fitter, helping players find the right equipment for their golf game. Upon Graduating, he turned professional in hopes of playing on the PGA tour. He is currently working towards PGA membership, with aspirations of competing in the game of golf. Some of his playing highlights include winning the 2018 GAP Silver Cross, and 2023 Philadelphia PGA Section Match Play Championship Runner-Up.

JACOB CHAMBERS, PGA

Senior PGA Assistant Golf Professional, Jr. Golf Coordinator

Jacob attended Campbell University, where he graduated with a dual degree in Professional Golf Management and Marketing. During his time at Campbell, Jacob spent two seasons, 2021 and 2022, as an intern at Wilmington Country Club as well as serving internships at the Country Club of Virginia and Garden City Golf Club in New York. He returns to Wilmington where he will be leading our Junior Golf program this season.

NATE FARNSWORTH Seasonal Assistant Golf Professional

Nate is a PGA Associate beginning his first season at Wilmington Country Club. He was born and raised in Auburn, Maine, and is a graduate of Bryant University in Rhode Island. Nate is joining Wilmington from Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Florida. He previously worked at Boothbay Harbor Country Club in Boothbay, Maine. Outside of work Nate enjoys spending time outdoors doing activities such as hiking, fishing, and coaching youth baseball.

WOMEN’S SKILL BUILDERS SERIES | BEGINNER

This semester-long program is designed for beginner women golfers to learn the fundamentals of golf! Even if its your first time holding a club, this low-pressure, stress-free, welcoming environment is a great way to start your golfing journey. Whether you want to learn to play with your family and friends, to participate in Corporate Outings, or become a 9 or 18 Holer, this program will give you the skills to get there and have fun along the way! Each week includes an instructional class, a supervised practice that teaches you how to practice on your own, and on- course applications to take what you learned and bring it on the course!

Each week includes an academy class where students work on a new skill, a supervised practice that teaches you how to practice on your own, and on-course applications to take what you learned and bring it on the course!

BUNKER BASICS

This program will teach students the fundamentals of bunker play to help get the ball out of the bunker and onto the green every time. We will explore how to play bunker shots from all types of lies and distances to help you master the sand

BALL STRIKING

This program will teach students to make better ball contact Dates: Wednesday, May 14th, at 3:00 p.m. & Saturday, May 18th at 3:00 p.m. Location: Back of the Range Price: $50 per class

WEDGE PLAY

This one-hour class will help you determine which club is your favorite from various distances and specialty shots around the green. We will look at shots between 20 and 60 yards and discuss what type of shot to hit when choosing a certain club from a specific situation Dates: Wednesday, May 21st, at 2:00 p.m. & Saturday, May 24th at 10:00 a.m.

PUTTING FOR DOUGH

This one-hour class focuses on all aspects of putting. Topics covered include green reading, lag putting, and holing short putts. Dates: Wednesday, May 28th, at 2:00 p.m. & Saturday, May 31st, at 10:00 a.m. Location: Short Game Practice Area Price: $50 per class

NEED FOR SPEED: DRIVER EDITION

This program will teach students increase speed and make better contact to hit the ball further and straighter! We will be using technology to help determine club and ball data. Dates: Wednesday, June 4th, at 3:00 p.m. & Saturday, June 7th at 11:00 a.m. Location: Back of the Range Price: $50 per class

MEN’S SHORT GAME MASTERY

This weekly class focuses on technique and strategy on all aspects of the short game from putting to full swing wedges. Our goal is to equip you with an understanding of how to execute a variety of shots and a game plan to take your new skills to the course.

Weekly Classes: Every Tuesday, May 6th to May 27th Time: 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Price: $50 per class

COACHING AND INSTRUCTION Family Golf & Open to All Programming

FAMILY GOLF

This comprehensive 4-week class offers an exceptional opportunity for families of all ages and skill levels to hone their short game skills and, ultimately, shave strokes off their golf scores. Each class session will follow a structured format designed to maximize learning and enjoyment. The session will begin with an instructional segment focusing on a specific type of short game shot, such as chipping, pitching, or putting. Our experienced PGA instructors will provide clear explanations and demonstrations, ensuring that participants understand the fundamentals and nuances of each shot. Following the instructional portion, participants will have ample time to practice the techniques they've learned. This practice time will be invaluable, as our PGA instructors will be present to provide personalized, hands-on coaching and advice, helping each individual refine their technique and address any specific challenges they may encounter. Finally, to put their newly acquired skills to the test, families will enjoy a 9- hole round of golf together. This round is included in the price of the class, providing a fantastic opportunity to apply what they've learned in a real-world setting.

Dates: June 21, June 28, July 12, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. Price: $50 per person per class or $150 per family of 3 or more per class

HALF-DAY GOLF SCHOOLS

This in-depth two days of instruction leads students through all facets of the game: putting, short game, full-swing shots, and on-course play. Members will develop an understanding for their tendencies in all aspects of the game, receiving personal coaching and a practice plan for improvement. Included in golf school cost is a 9-hole Playing Evaluation on Day 1 Followed by Lunch in Pub37 and afull morning of instruction on Day 2 with a student-teacher ratio of no greater than 3-1.
