In thanking the Australian Government as the concert’s main sponsor, Governor Parkop described it as a celebration of shared heritage, identity and aspirations between indigenous artists from both nations. “Meganesia is more than entertainment – it’s a cultural hand-shake.” The Australian High Commission’s counsellor for public diplomacy Nicholas Kittel said the “incredible vibe” and the “crossing of culture between Papua New Guinea and Australia” highlighted both nations as “young countries in the sense of being nations, but we’re also ancient countries”.
