Snow Mold Best Management Practices // Snow mold sclerotia begin to germinate in the fall at air temperatures of 50-65°F. Consider applying a fungicide like Tartan Stressgard 2-4 weeks prior to your final end of year application to reduce inoculum levels heading into winter // Reduce shade, minimize compaction and traffic, maintain adequate fertility, and maximize other cultural practices to ensure optimum turf health heading into winter // For effective disease control, use 1-2 active ingredients for Microdochium patch, 2-3 active ingredients for pink snow mold and 3-4 active ingredients for gray snow mold // Fungicide performance can be impacted by excessive rainfall, abnormal warmth and winter snow melt events so: // Delay the final fungicide application for snow mold until after mowing ceases // If the first and only planned application was made at traditional timing and growth/mowing has continued, reapply in the most sensitive areas (green, tees, regularly damaged areas) // If significant rainfall (~2" or more) has occurred since the final scheduled snow mold application, reapply to the most sensitive areas
