A CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORY
BOUNCING BACK FROM WINTER An in-depth case study on the dramatic benefits of Harrell’s MAX® Not far from the heart of quaint downtown Danbury is the Richter Park Golf Course, quietly hidden among the towering trees and rolling hills of Connecticut. With mountain backdrops and majestic views of West Lake Reservoir, golfers enjoy a peaceful day away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Edward Ryder, the course architect, cleverly incorporated several natural water obstacles on 14 of the 18 holes, and with four sets of tees to choose from, golfers of all skill levels will find this public course to be an enjoyable challenge. Running the daily operations is Superintendent Rob Dorsch, who maintains Bent/Poa on the greens and Blue/Rye on the fairways. While Connecticut is beautiful in the spring, summer and fall, the winter months can be harsh and prove a challenge to any superintendent trying to keep their course in good condition. Rob experienced this harsh reality in the winter of 2011, when his course took a severe hit from several ice and snow storms. The injury to his course was so extreme that he had visible signs of winter damage all the way into September. At that time, Rob had never heard of Harrell’s MAX ® or incorporated any Harrell’s products on his course.
Rob got to work and began aggressively seeding the damaged areas. However, the weather did not cooperate that April and the average high was only 48 degrees, allowing for absolutely no seed growth. Rob started Harrell’s MAX ® applications around April 10 and he continued these

James Wierzbicki, Territory Manager for Harrell’s, was impressed with the dramatic results his customer experienced, “what struck me about this situation was Rob’s course was subject to the most severe winter damage relative to other courses in my area, and he ended up being basically one of the fastest to recover. When I visited him around May 20th, he had far surpassed the recovery of many courses that had much less winter damage than he did.” Explaining his success using Harrell’s MAX ® products for the first time, Rob said, “after soil temperatures warmed up, the Harrell’s MAX ® applications had a significant impact on seeded areas, dramatically increasing seedling germination and overall establishment.”
The beautiful Richter Park Golf Course, Danbury, CT
Fast forward to winter of 2015. Rob once again found himself facing severe winter damage, even more than what he experienced in 2011. As spring tried to burst forth, winter was reluctant to leave and the lingering snow and ice did not melt until the first week in April. Rob was once again facing an uphill battle to recover his golf course from the unforgiving power of winter’s brutal hand.
