Competition can build character and teamwork, teach professional arbor- ists to function and perform under pressure, incentivize excellence, and drive skill development and profes- sionalism. Competition can also be highly educational and great fun for everyone involved! Skills competitions should target, chal- lenge and showcase specific skills by providing an ideal setting and format for arborists and tree workers to mea- sure their skills head-to-head against each other in a fun, friendly and safe environment. I believe that we must challenge and encourage our employees and each other to be the very best we can be, no matter how tough the challenge before us may be. Mediocrity has no place in the tree care profession, and we know that sloppy workmanship leads to sloppier work-
