What do you enjoy most about your role? The innovation and the opportunity to learn. I’ve always been eager to explore new solutions and push the boundaries of my current role which keeps my work exciting. I love to stay informed about industry developments by attending technology events and engaging with peers and experts. For me, the combination of constantly learning, innovating and staying connected to industry progress is what makes my career truly exciting. What memories really stand out for you over the years you’ve been involved in this industry? I’m an innovation-driven person as it inspires and motivates me. I don’t think I’ve ever lost that sense of excitement. For instance, designing, building, and testing something completely new, and being the first one to see the outcome of that innovation, was truly amazing! Perhaps the most memorable moment was the DOCSIS 4.0 test we conducted on a live network. After all the preparations, it was incredible to see 16k-QAM on the constellation diagram, as this had been achieved for the first time in the world. That was an unforgettable moment for me. The sector has changed a lot in 17 years; what for you is the biggest shift? The sector has seen incredible transformations over the last 17 years, but for me, the biggest shift has been the evolution of cable network technologies and the innovations within optical communications. For example, the industry is now preparing to offer higher capacity with DOCSIS 4.0 while also signaling that the limits of coaxial networks will be pushed even further with DOCSIS 5.0. This is undoubtedly a crucial step toward sustainability!

What about fibre?

That’s why it’s crucial to value every opportunity

Of course, advancements in fibre technologies, such as Next-Gen PON (50/100G) and even experimental Terabit PON solutions, are redefining the way we think about capacity and connectivity. These developments, combined with achievements in mobile communications, which is from 4G to 5G and now discussions about upcoming 6G, have triggered use cases such as autonomous vehicles, smart cities and industrial automation. However, I believe that AI has been the most transformative factor entering the scene as it has the potential to revolutionise society on an entirely new scale. What I have observed over these years is that nothing is impossible in science and this constant progress has been the defining characteristic of the sector! What do you get out of being a member of the SCTE? What would you like to see more of? I’m a relatively new member of this community, but I’m excited about the opportunities it provides, such as lectures, training and industry-specific events. I look forward to learning from these resources and hope to meet and collaborate with other members to work toward common goals and contribute to the growth of our industry. I’m always open to connecting and I believe we can inspire and uplift each other to achieve great things together!
